Chicagoland is a volume not an area anyway.

At my first job we were hunting for ways to make our process more efficient because the scale had reached a point where the SLO was in jeopardy, and I joked to my director that we should've introduced sleep() calls in the first version to set expectations low, and then removed them for impact.

You'd be charged with a felony. Just like they should be.

The concentration enables the gatekeeping. You can't have one without the other. Gatekeeping is only better than fully open if the gatekeepers are benevolent. Even if that's true for a moment in time, it won't be most of the time due to economic incentives.

You want web page layouts to literally require an act of Congress to change instead of just figuratively?

What is intimate about it? It's pretty much just a complicated chair.

I just buy only the 240W cables. It's more expensive, but life's too short to spend it trying to remember where you left the good cable.

Agreed, it's likely multiple causes. I'm not surprised some people still support slavery. Look at the damn 13th amendment! Those people saw chattel slavery firsthand and couldn't even support an unqualified ban against it in the first place.

I'm sure that's a factor sometimes, but the main issue is typically that produce farms are allowed to be placed adjacent or downstream of cow pasture. The cow poop inevitably gets into the water which is then used to irritate the field. You'd think there should be a minimum distance, but 🤷

Perhaps reducing cars is the true causal factor and not the bike lanes
000
Richard Laughlin @richardwlaughlin.com · 11/07/2026
I'll have to read this one because I'd expect similar results from simply banning bikes if having them in a protected section makes everyone safer. If you don't get similar results, then how do they rule out confounding factors. Perhaps protected bike lanes are an indicator of something else.

If the `get_achievement` call is cheap then that works. If it's not then you'd want to short circuit to stop checking as soon as you find the first false. I'm thinking static array and for loop with &= and an early return. A good compiler should unroll the loop.

Thanks. A while ago I had to spend a while trying to find a legit place to make one when I wanted to make a Wi-Fi QR I've since used it for several visitors and it's so much faster and easier.

If he doesn't formally veto and doesn't sign it, then it becomes law in 10 days. If he formally vetoes it then Congress can vote to overrule with 2/3 majority. For this bill they had that threshold already, but if he vetoes some folks may decide not to overrule.

Even if FSD was engaged, there's video which shows this car was going way way faster than is appropriate in a residential neighborhood. Any reasonable, responsible driver would've hit the brake to slow down. IANAL, but I believe the driver should be charged.

Even spinning rust hard drives have become painful now. They're not 3x like RAM, but it adds up across an entire array. 😢

Actually, since output tokens use budget faster, ask it lots of questions. Perhaps tell it you're thinking about writing an article about it, which is a great marketing opportunity. But you need it to meet your strict word minimum requirements.

Reply with nonsense so it uses up the token budget.

Go ahead and read the first paragraph on Wikipedia for "Communism" and "Authoritarianism" You'll see that the first doesn't apply here at all and the second is maybe true. You could have both at once, but we don't because the first isn't true at all.

Probably. Anthropic is trying "explain why it shouldn't be controlled", and when that doesn't work they'll pivot to "not allowed to be controlled"

You belong up there because people understand the content when you teach it! Thanks for the videos, I'm a backend/data engineer, and am much better at full stack prototypes now. I think you'll find that outside of the frontend/css niche you're the most recognized name on the list. 😁

Non-GAAP EBITDA profitable for Q2 of 2026. They said they might not be (I.e. won't be) for the rest of the year. Q2 is the quarter where they got an unspecified discount from Space X. It's already profitable assuming you omit costs, trust Non-GAAP, and don't look at a larger time period.

Richard Laughlin @richardwlaughlin.com · 05/06/2026
This also overlaps with the quarter where they receive an unspecified discount for renting compute from Space-X.

Richard Laughlin @richardwlaughlin.com · 05/06/2026
Well kind of. It's Non-GAAP EBITDA profitable for quarter 2 of 2026. Non-GAAP, EBITDA and a single quarter make this claim highly suspicious. IIRC they also said they don't expect to be for the rest of the year.

We need a constitutional amendment to create a mechanism for a popular vote to overrule supreme court decisions. 3 strikes on the wrong end of that and a justice is off the bench.

The most offensive to me are Disney+ ads for their other shows when I already pay them the blood tax to not see ads. I have to leave the room because I see red and I don't want my son to hear the words that come from my mouth.

There are open models that are quite competitive with the frontier. You don't need billions of investment in hardware unless you're trying to serve the entire Internet. It's low 6 figures of investment for a few hundred users. The hardware they could buy fits into a standard server rack.

You have to demonstrate that your plans gains or prevent losses **directly**, in terms they care about in their own lives. If you start talking about fucking tax credits, GDP, unemployment numbers or whatever else: you lose, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

If they think things are bad you can't talk them out of it. They will see any attempt at convincing them otherwise as condescending or straight up confrontational.

These data perverts think this shit will convince the (mostly innumerate) pessimists that the way they feel is simply incorrect. This isn't a graduate program. None of that (largely bullshit) econ shit matters here. This is a rhetorical fight, not a thesis. No one cares who is technically correct.

The economy is doing great, you're just pessimistic about it because you haven't seen my beautiful numbers. Look with your special eyes at my beautiful charts. See? It's a vibecession. Now we can go back to sleep. No need for fundamental reforms at all, everything is on track.

Once the hyper scalers are tapped out they'll pivot to smaller firms and try to sell it as an all in one solution.
