“Canada lives because of the United States” (Trump). Yes Canada lives because throughout our history we have chosen not to be part of the United States, to understand ourselves as different from the US, to follow a different path than the US, and to play a different role in the world than the US.

Distinguished University Professor Emeritus

“The Social Character of Rights and the Limits of Adjudication”

In this talk, Prof. Moon will consider two themes that have recurred in his writing: first, that constitutional rights do not simply protect individual autonomy but instead protect different aspects of human flourishing or dignity in the community, and second, that courts, as adjudicative bodies, are unable to give full or even significant protection to these rights.

The active element of the CPC - the base - is hard right, even extreme and will no doubt continue to dominate nomination meetings, and leadership races. A moderate CPC leader would have won a clear majority. Still more than 40% voted for a Cdn version of the Republican Party.

If the Conservatives had a different leader - and not someone whose entire life has been about partisan attack - the time might be right for a unity gov in Canada. The country is under threat. The welfare of the country mattered to past Conservative leaders. It is not part of Poilievre’s agenda.
