Poverty in NYC is at a record 26% — 2.2M people. As federal policy shrinks the safety net, state & local leaders face tough choices in an emergency they didn’t create. The decisions ahead will shape whether NYC can become the beacon of opportunity we aim to be. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/16/n...

Federal threats to Medicaid, SNAP, and immigration protections are not abstract—they are shocks that will hit the families we serve in 2026 and beyond. We're investing now in the programs, systems, and technology that will help those families hold on—and more than that—get ahead.

Black History Month begins alongside National Freedom Day—a reminder that freedom, equity, and history are deeply linked. When Black history is being restricted and challenged, understanding our past isn’t optional. You can’t fight poverty—or build a more just future—without it.

Three Kings’ Day is a reminder that hope is something you carry—and something you act on. As we look ahead, the lesson feels clear: pay attention to what families really need, and make sure support shows up in ways that actually help.

A parent shouldn’t have to choose which meals they skip so their kids can eat. The Poverty Tracker, produced with Columbia, shows 40%+ of New York families with children can’t afford weekly food costs. Robin Hood is increasing emergency food funding by 50% because families need support now.
