I sympathise with your opinion but as an ex-christian I know how difficult it is to eradicate the need to fill a 'God Shaped Hole' in the mind. My partner was brought up without religion and is absent of the concept. Pragmatically eradicating religion is impossible but controlling its effect maybe?

I think the problem I have with Halloween lies mostly in the fact that an enormous amount of food is wasted in the creation of pumpkin heads in the UK. In the US the pumpkin flesh is eaten I understand. Also gathering sweets and cash through threats and the incursion of US culture into my space grrr

I'm an atheist but I'm aware of the importance of belief systems in people's minds. Problems caused aren't about religion per se but the leaders, usually men, who organise and run religious organisations. It is their need to control others that causes the world grief.

I heard 'they' were secretly shipping in plane loads of rose-ringed parakeets to take over the trees and bird feeders of our English garden birds. There sure are a lot of them in SE London. I don't believe it as I just made it up to get a reaction - just like Isabel Oakeshott does to get attention.

Because of my contemporary understanding of language the title caused me to look for something not there... but then I looked at the year it was made and it made more sense. My shed is full of these past loved anthropomorphised objects. When I get new slippers I put the old pair into the new pair so that the slipper soul will transfer before throwing the old. I'm also a great believer in science and the scientific method and loath conspiracy theories and anti-vaxers.

I had desensitising injections as a youth. They didn't work sufficiently to deal with cats as a way of coping with permanent ownership (though one never owns a cat... it's the other way around). And, anyway, I'm a dog person.

Absobloodylutely! In the UK everyone assumed that the vote for Brexit would fail. We've suffered 10 years of shit for our failings. And there was no one physically manipulating the vote. Trump has said he will happily cheat. Advice from across The Pond... Assume NOTHING.

Never a great fan but my brother had an album called 'Easy Action' which I remember fondly. A sweet little track called 'Beautiful Flyaway' comes to mind. Oh, and 'Refrigerator Heaven' was a blast also.

I didn't insult her music. I recognise her importance as a musician and song writer. You're choosing to misinterpret my initial post. People are complicated and exceptional people more so. Just discussing the 'sweet and nice' bits come over as childish and saccharin. She deserves better.
