In my case, at the moment I click Go Live, I do not have a Starting Soon screen, but rather, I appear live and ready, greeting rial-ones as they come in and recommending everyone to get a snack and drinks so they can enjoy my streams and this is what has worked for me so far.

This discussion illustrates that there is not a single answer and that everyone should think for themselves and experiment what's best for them. So let's be reasonable and think about it ourselves.

130

rial miruku 🪷【vtuber】 @riaru.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Think about the balance that is better for your case. In the end, the Starting Soon screen is only a small portion of your content, and there are many more impactful things to think about, like how you deliver your content and how you interact with viewers during the duration of the entire stream.

rial miruku 🪷【vtuber】 @riaru.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

As for the downsides, there is such a thing as taking too long on a Starting Soon screen. I have witnessed cases in which the streamer was getting ready for 20 minutes before starting it, and without any countdown or message in the chat, it was a little too much to wait.

120

rial miruku 🪷【vtuber】 @riaru.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

On Twitch, streamers can disable pre-roll ads in exchange of running a total of 3m of ads per hour on their chosen schedule. Many streamers opt to deliver those 3m right on the first minute of the stream, so anyone that joins within the first hour won't be served ads, which helps viewer retention.

rial miruku 🪷【vtuber】 @riaru.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

This is where a Starting Soon screen is useful: it gives time for everyone to prepare and gather so they can enjoy the stream as much as possible.

130

rial miruku 🪷【vtuber】 @riaru.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

Meanwhile, it gives viewers time to receive a notification and then get ready to watch. Some people can watch immediately, but there are also cases that the viewers are busy or establishing a connection to the stream themselves.

130

rial miruku 🪷【vtuber】 @riaru.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

For example, the streamer will check internet connection, stream health, and confirm function of many programs that happen, to make sure the stream is delivered without problems.

It seems "Starting Soon" screen subject is trending on X. For those that don't know, a Starting Soon screen is a scene in a stream where the stream has started, and gives time for people to gather round and for the streamer to get ready. Here's my opinion: 👇🏽🧵

From my analytics page, it's not really possible to see Bluesky as a source of traffic, so it made me wonder, how many of the rial-ones found me through here?

I prefer when horror games have fewer enemies because I do get desensitized if I'm having to deal with a zombie for the millionth time 🙄 ✨ Heather is really cool. A lot of attitude and snarky remarks for the player or other character's actions. Excited to continue Silent Hill 3 tomorrow 🐝
