ISIS televised beheadings and millions watched. But it did more to mobilize global opinion against them than to inspire imitators - until Hegseth.

These days whenever I hear a new artist who reminds me of an old musician I love, I wonder if it’s AI. Sigh.

I’d be really surprised if the issue of Trump’s cognitive is news to anyone reading this thread - or any regular reader of the mainstream press.

So I’ve been a lifelong Red Sox fan, but — like a lot of us — I never got over the Mookie Betts trade. My feelings about the team have been conflicted since then, and they haven’t given me much reason to come back.. firing Alex Cora and his whole staff hurt. (Even if the results were good.)

Otoh, it’s important that good reporting be confirmed and amplified by other media outlets. A problem with traditional media is the reluctance to recognize the scoops of their competitors.

And Trump is undermining GOP messaging, cozying up to Mandami (who they planned to run against) and China, picking fights with Canada, the JFK Center and WH reporters, obsessing over vanity projects and grift.

Among the things Trump doesn’t understand: Nobody likes high oil prices - except for those who own lots of oil, which includes his donors.

I served on newspaper editorial boards for 30 years and I’ve never heard of anyone getting paid for an endorsement, quietly or loudly. The one time a candidate told us his advertising depended on our endorsement, the publisher kicked him out.

The difference between journalists and influencers: in mainstream journalism taking money from someone you’re writing about is a firing offense. For influencers it’s part of the business model.

I think a lot of people don’t understand the job of a legislative caucus leader. Holding the right views on a particular issue is the least of it.

This girl I used to waitress with in Austin, we moved to New York together in 2003 on a literal Greyhound bus. Shared a fifth floor walk-up studio that, when it rained, had more leaks in the ceiling than we had pots and pans. We used to get drunk and smoke off the fire escape and do “sad-offs.”

One thing about covid has been obvious from the beginning: Some people cared about saving lives and some cared about scoring political points. It’s always been easy to tell them apart.

Strategist brain: all politics is two-dimensional, laid out on a line running left and right, and all that matters is where you are placed on that line. Works for poli sci majors who never met a real voter.

Nor do people need due process legalities before they decide to vote for someone they like despite the mistakes in his past. Nor do they need the approval of judgmental out-of-state pundits who never did anything they regret.

Don’t accept the premise that the DSA is a real thing that people are voting for. Democrats are Democrats and people vote for candidates, not ideology.

Would you like to listen to a good Presidential speech about America? Attend: In 2015, Rudy Giuliani, some time before he was disbarred, said, “I do not believe, and I know this is a horrible thing to say, but I do not believe that the president loves America.” www.politico.com/story/2015/0...

For years it’s been widely believed that Trump agrees with the last person he talked to. In this case it was Netanyahu, who met with him in the WH situation room a few days before they started the war.

Tbh I can’t tell who’s a bot and who’s not. But I get suspicious. Why do the anti-Platner posters never mention Mills or Costello, the other Dems on the ballot. Why do they never mention issues or talk about Maine? I’m sure some are motivated by deep upset over the tattoo but 🤷🏻.

A lot of people are worried Platner will be another Fetterman. I worry he could be another Al Franken: a talented progressive run out of politics over mini-scandals about stuff he said or did long before he ran for office.

I’ve been struck by how similar the anti-Platner discourse seems to what we heard in the Bernie Bros’ attacks on Hillary. Interesting because ideology doesn’t seem to drive it. Makes me suspicious.
