Surprised I haven't seen more of this chart from Anthropic's www.anthropic.com/institute/ec... (well, semi surprised - when a wave of doom debate hits it tends to drown out all else 🙄) "In all scenarios, ordinary workers get _zero_ of any AI-driven economic growth" is, um, striking!

One of the many things I like about Sam Kriss is that his lexical pyrotechnics are in the service of actual insight (from samkriss.substack.com/p/numb-at-bu...)

probably worth spotlighting (Green is widely and highly regarded and the opposite of an apologist for anyone and anything, for context)

This (from today's "Analysing Africa" Economist newsletter) is something I've been saying for years - over the decades NGOs (inadvertently) drained nation-state capacity, which was a big reason the USAID cuts were so devastating

North of Larnaka in Cyprus there is an absolutely gargantuan oceanside development zone, still in the digging-things-up stage, called "Land of Tomorrow," whose banners promise "new life, by the sea," and I just wonder whether its braintrust has seen Blade Runner.

The crosstabs here (from www.dataforprogress.org/blog/2026/2/... ) are kinda wild; when was the last time there was a big new topic so orthogonal to the usual political lines in hyperpartisan America?

Well ... that's just the 18-month-ago phase shift. Ask the software engineers in your life about the December 2025 phase shift. Typical commentary from an infosec professionals Slack I'm on:

On the one hand this was obviously not caused by LLMs, but they may accelerate this trend (I say "may" because Jevons Paradox; another and more interesting outcome is that the term "software developer" will get much much hazier)

It's almost always fun to compare contemporary reviews with reassessments. The anti-reviewers at the time were just big mad that the action genre was even a thing. Always instructive to wonder about what dismissed genre today will be reassessed in 30 years...
