What's significant about Pachelbel's Canon in particular is how it was a song that wasn't very well played or recognized in its time, but in since the 1970s was dug up, mutated, and played to advertise wedding rings. I think its use here was actually very clever.

Pachelbel's Canon plays twice in this episode. The first time is in a scene that's getting talked about for "shock value" and I think people will probably make video essays about for a while. I personally think the show handled it as gracefully as they could given their intended audience.
