Oh wow, that whole 'corporations are destroying books' thing actually has a silver lining. I'm not being financially irresponsible; I'm doing vital conservation work.

And with that, draft 2 of my #novel is complete. A short break, then I begin editing at a surgical level. No word is safe. But boy, does it feel good to reach this milestone. #WritingCommunity #BookSky

Men in Hollywood films are always like: “Woman, you can’t turn it off from the control room. You could sprain an ankle on the way: it’s too dangerous. No, the only way is that I must eat all the radium.”

The fact human effort went into the creation of something gives it meaning. Think about mountaineering: how many people still climb mountains, even risk their lives, even though helicopters are a thing? You can fly higher than Everest, but where's the effort and challenge that makes it meaningful?

Human creativity can only survive if we cherish it. The past couple of decades have seen a shift in behaviour: the way we now consume content is damaging the very thing we rely on for meaning, connection, understanding, perspective and joy.

The great thing about having a preference for asking questions over posting answers is that it’s easy to run out of answers, but you’ll never run out of questions.

Question for you: we all spend a lot of time looking for content (scrolling, searching, and so on). But what are you actually looking for? Can you describe what it is? I'm not sure that I can. Which is weird, right?

This was an interesting book - particularly the stuff about learning and failing in public. Yet I feel it didn’t really embrace the ethos that it espoused. Most of the examples of success were the usual ‘and they grew a newsletter to 100k subscribers’, etc.

The more we convince ourselves the ‘Other Side’ is irredeemably evil, the more opportunities we lose to make a meaningful difference.

Progress requires more than knowing the ‘Other Side’ is wrong
The right knows they’re correct. The left knows they’re correct. Both believe the other is ill-informed and irrational. See the problem?
