Duh. It’s OBVIOUSLY not a golden calf in Exod 32 or 1 Kgs 13. It’s much more analogous to Daniel 3

My thoughts on the Nakba
It was 2008 before I learned of the existence of Palestinian Christians in more than an abstract way. I had my PhD. I had been teaching for 10 years, and I had spent over 5 months in country in Israel over 4 different trips. I'm still embarrassed it took me that long. Yesterday was Israeli Independence Day. Today, Palestinians remember the same event as "Nakba" or "catastrophe." Seventy-seven years ago 750,000 people out of a population of 1.9 million were displaced. Entire villages of Christians, Muslims, and various other faiths were seized.
I won't pretend to be smart enough to know what a just solution is to conflict that has gone on for well over a century. But I know that hate is never right or God's will, that violence is an abdication of Christ's will for us, and that every human being bears the divine image and is worthy of life and dignity because of that.
Last night at Wednesday Night Bible Study, we looked at Matthew 25—a chilling reminder that the nations which do not act out of mercy and compassion for the vulnerable will find judgment. God's blessing is not found in strength or violence, but empathy add provision.
I suppose all I want to say is. My heart breaks. My heart breaks for all Israelis. My heart breaks for all Palestinians. And in particular, my heart breaks for Palestinian Christians—those keepers of the faith still, for over 2000 years, part of my family of faith—as they fear more displacement and ongoing genocide.
It does not have to be this way. But it will be, until people of good conscious stand up and say, "No more, and never again."

Happy Book Release Day to all who celebrate (and I'd love it if celebrations were widespread). While the book can be found at Amazon and B&N, right now, it's cheaper at the publisher! www.helwys.com/product/a-pr...

Going through some old photos from mom’s house. This 1929 calendar was in the back of a frame. I assume Norton Floral Co has updated their phone number.
A picture from my calendar from 1929 from the Norton floral company. Their phone number is a three digit number 380.

This is a real product at Gamestop. Upon hearing it’s $55. A friend asked, “How is it holding its value?!” I said in tech bro voice: “It’s actually an excellent hedge against inflation. You should see what my 1984 ‘Gag Me With A Spoon’ spoons are going for!”

For people of faith whose priorities were not reflected by last weeks election results, allow me to suggest some reading: How to Have an Enemy: Righteous Anger & the Work of Peace by Melissa Florer-Bixler a pastor/theologian, who focuses on justice and response to systemic oppression.
Copy of the book cover for how to have an enemy righteous anger and the work of peace.

I am pleased with how it came together. Won’t be a member of the 501st anytime soon. But brought some joy tonight.
