i've never seen anyone mention this!? witchsky (i assume other clients also, but i checked and bsky proper doesn't have it) is able to store tags separately from the text of a post which - makes posts cleaner (eg. for art or photography) - lightens load on character limit very cool!

As many of you know by now, I see our world and our challenges in ways different from some, or even most, of you. By itself that is fine. But the breach is not one of mere disagreement, it has become existential. And there are some institutions that want to keep the volume as high as it will go, they want to keep us afraid and insecure. For some, antisemitism is good for business.

But I refuse to sideline the only reason I am standing here, the only reason I have stood here for 28 years; that I am still a proud Jew, not because I was born a Jew, an accident of birth, but because of a 3000-year-old wisdom tradition we now call Judaism that I discovered in an old stone building on Shmuel Ha-Navi street in the Bukharin quarter of Jerusalem in 1979.

I have concluded that perhaps in this moment of a collective mabul this community that has been so beloved to me, is asking for something else. I will not, cannot in good conscience, become a survivalist. I cannot, will not, trade in Judaism for the Jews. I will not permit even our enemies to allow me to hate. I will not trade in my religion for an “existential threat” manufactured to keep us afraid. I will not forego teshuva.

I do not deny antisemitism is real and rising in our society, but I also will not reify it. I refuse to allow it to become the center of my identity as a Jew. I am not claiming any of us are doing that, but as the Talmud teaches “a wide person has eyes in their head.” I also see where we are heading, and I can’t go there with some of you. I all but left social media not because I don’t think the challenges we face are real, but because I think the framing of those problems are manipulative and destructive. We are being fed snakes. Every day. In my own idiosyncratic way, I am too much of a believer for all that, a believer in some inchoate creator, and in humanity.
