It’s agonizing to watch the scenes in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where an LDS congregation was attacked today. God be with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone in that ward and wider community. Violence is a moral disease. The ultimate answer is not reciprocal state violence, but moral renewal.

So much for my MAGA conversation partners to process, these days. Not just that Trump orders an American business (not China) to “eat the tariffs,” but that he wants dirty coal-burning power plants for the US, but sleek state-of-the-art AI server plants for the Gulf States. Hmm . . .

As Christians celebrate Epiphany today, let us remember that glorious moment occurred while a narcissistic autocrat sought to violently overthrow “peace on earth and goodwill toward humanity.” As electoral college ballots are counted today at the Capitol, let us not forget how history instructs.
