Some days in ministry hold everything. This morning I anointed the congregation, baptised a baby, presided at Communion and we extinguished the Easter candle as Pentecost closed the season. This afternoon I took a wedding and pronounced a couple husband and wife. Grateful.

I recently led the 85th anniversary memorial for the firefighters killed in the Plymouth Blitz. My RAFAC years taught me not to be thrown by formality. This is where the things I value meet: public service and steady, pastoral leadership.

4. Change has to be institutional. Not more pressure on individuals to push through, but dioceses, TEIs and national structures creating conditions where people can actually flourish.

2. The model of priesthood still assumes a certain kind of person. That shapes how formation and “competence” are judged. And resilience definitely doesn’t mean “work harder and smile.”

1. A lot of the struggle is structural, not personal. Unclear systems, shifting expectations, inaccessible processes, these affect everyone. It’s not about individual weakness.

🧵 I’ve been reading the Church of England’s new report on disabled and neurodivergent clergy wellbeing, and it names things many people have been living with for a long time. A few things really stood out:

This has been another great Windsor experience. I feel so fortunate to be a double alumna. I highly recommend these programmes and do remember for faith leaders bursaries are available

The MCGI reminded me that all those years counted. If you’ve built your leadership in voluntary settings and ever wondered whether it “counts”, it absolutely does.

because they care, not because they’re paid. Managing volunteers teaches you to lead through trust, clarity and purpose, not hierarchy. Working now in a sector that doesn’t always recognise prior experience or qualifications, I’m even more grateful for organisations that do value lived leadership.

🧵It’s been a few years now since I achieved my Level 7 MCGI in Leadership and Management through City & Guilds. It wasn’t really about the certificate — it was about recognising 13 years of real leadership. Most of those skills were learned in voluntary roles, leading teams of people who show up

🧵 “On the one hand, women are expected to exhibit the traits traditionally associated with effective leadership, such as assertiveness and decisiveness. On the other hand, as argued above, when women display these traits, they are often labelled negatively, as ‘bossy’, ‘aggressive’ or ‘unfeminine’”

The Crib Service is my favourite event of the year, high energy and absolute chaos. It’s brilliant! It was so encouraging to see the numbers have doubled from last year.

I love this definition. A great therapist I worked with would always get people to extend their ‘I’m tired’ sentence to ‘I’m tired of……..’. Try asking yourself next time you feel tired- what am I tired of? It’s often very revealing!

A bimble around the Beyond Van Gogh exhibition was more than enough exercise today. Followed by a delicious carvery at Buckfast Abbey. I’m tired and sore but so glad we went.

Crumbling church hall used by thousands each year set for a net zero facelift | The Church of England
