I will continue speaking honestly about harm inside Christian frameworks, even when those frameworks are considered progressive, compassionate, or the preferred path for people deconstructing.

I will never stop screaming the dangers of Christian patriarchy. We’re often so accustomed to its influence that we do not recognize the areas in our lives where we have capitulated or submitted to it.

I wasn't done deconstructing in 2020. I'm not done now either. Growth has continued to ask more of me. It has invited me to keep learning, keep unlearning, and keep making room for new understanding. I'm grateful I wasn't finished then and I'm grateful I'm still growing now.

The power of Christian patriarchy extends far beyond churched systems. Many people think Christian patriarchy begins and ends inside a church building. It doesn't. It shapes our institutions, our politics, and the expectations we place on one another.

Deconstructing is emotional, mental, and spiritual work. Do not fear visiting the spaces within your being where false narratives and limiting beliefs may be hiding. Do it with support if you feel it is too much to do it alone. The work is worth it.

Some people deconstruct church. Others deconstruct Christianity itself. Deconstructing does not lead everyone to the same destination.

Patriarchy taught women to fear aging but the Crone was never something to fear. She is the woman who no longer needs permission. No longer needs approval. No longer apologizes for taking up space. She is not fading. She is awakening.

Christian patriarchy fears the awakening of women stepping into their power. Systems built on hierarchy and obedience rarely know what to do with women who begin questioning the roles they were taught. Especially women who stop shrinking themselves to protect the comfort or approval of others.

Deconstructing is relearning discernment after years of being taught not to trust yourself. Deconstructing often begins the moment you stop silencing the voice inside you that said something about this feels wrong.

I was taught obedience before I was taught self-worth. So many women were raised to believe being “good” meant being compliant, agreeable & self-sacrificing. For many of us, deconstructing became the slow and painful process of learning that our worth was never supposed to depend on our obedience.

Christianity’s crisis is not persecution. It is exposure. What we’re witnessing right now isn’t Christianity being attacked. We’re watching people see clearly who gets protected, what gets excused, and how quickly power gets prioritized over people. These moments clarify why we walked away.

Deconstructing without decolonizing just rebuilds the same house with new paint. Real change asks more than surface-level shifts. It asks us to look beneath what we were taught and question who it was built to serve. Without that, nothing actually changes. We just rearrange what’s already there.

A government-endorsed day of prayer rooted in evangelical supremacy threatens both freedom of religion and freedom from it. Today is the National Day of Prayer. Take a closer look at who is shaping it, what is being said, and who is being left out.

Many of us were harmed inside white Christian patriarchy. Many of us also benefited from it. Real deconstruction asks us to acknowledge both. That tension is not a contradiction. It’s the beginning of honest work.

Many people are willing to deconstruct the parts of Christianity that harmed them, but will fight to hold onto the beliefs that still serve their privilege. And that changes everything.

If walking away from harm makes me an apostate, then may we all be brave enough to become one. When people use that word, it’s meant to shut you down, to make you feel like you’ve done something wrong, but what you’ve actually done is step away from something that hurt you. That takes courage.

Solitude isn’t always chosen. Sometimes it’s what remains when we refuse to keep silencing ourselves to belong. That space can feel lonely. It can also become the place where honesty returns and self-trust takes root.

There is a side of Christianity that does not respond to suffering the way you expect. Not because people are heartless but because their belief system has already made sense of the suffering.

I used to believe God was big enough to share. It was something I carried with me as I left church, a way to hold onto meaning while everything else unraveled but eventually, even that belief fell away. Not with fear. Not with loss. With peace. The mystery that remains... it's enough.

Grief has a way of slowing everything down. Of making you look at your life and ask what actually matters. I used to believe purpose was something I had to find in God. Something I had to get right. Now, I experience it differently.

“Please don’t say God or offer a prayer to God in the service.” What stood out to me here is how life without religion isn’t empty, it’s spacious. In that quiet, we can finally begin to notice what feels true, safe, and healing.

Deconstructing doesn’t remove us from the world’s pain. It sharpens our awareness of it but it also reminds us that spirituality was never meant to be an escape from humanity. It was meant to deepen our responsibility to it.

Many people begin the process of deconstructing the beliefs they were raised with but far fewer continue the work of examining the deeper structures of power that those beliefs supported. The deeper questions ask how the systems we are leaving shaped power, privilege, and harm.

This isn’t just about me. It’s about what happens when you free yourself from dogma and still refuse to make yourself small. I didn’t leave the church to disappear. I left to live more honestly. And I’m not going back. If you’re deconstructing and wondering what comes after, I hope this helps.

“If you left Christianity, how can you still be a Reverend?” It’s a fair question. One I get asked often. I’m not here to defend a title. I’m here to honor a truth. My ordination didn’t come from Christian approval. It came from years of study, reflection, and choosing a path rooted in compassion.

What I can no longer represent is a flawed Christianity that relies on patriarchal structure. Even the most “progressive” churches still harbor patriarchy in quiet, tolerated ways and I could no longer stay silent. Not when that silence would be mistaken as consent.

They asked for a conversation. I thought they were curious about my story. Turns out, they were looking for a strategy to get me back in the pew. What they didn’t understand is that many of us didn’t walk away casually. We walked away with intention, with grief, and often with no support.

High-control, fundamentalist Christianity has weaponized the Holy Spirit to create the illusion that church leaders have more direct access to it than the average person. When spiritual authority is used to convince you that someone else hears from the Divine more clearly than you do, it’s control.

Some of us didn’t speak up as children because we knew we were not safe and now, watching the silence, denial, or defense of abuse happening again can make those old wounds feel raw all over. You did not deserve what happened to you and you deserve spaces that feel safe now.
