In your charity, prayers for my family. An extended Sabbath sign out from work& social media so I can be emotionally present as our mother passes from this life to the next. Productivity is my drug of choice. But we are not made just to labor, but for love. Pray that death be “gentle as nightfall.”

Praying today with Luke 6- let us pray 🙏: O Lord, I know it’s been here all along, but I’ve never noticed before that the mass healing & the blessing are tied together. We preachers cut these two passages apart. Healing and blessing, here and now. Bless us now. Heal us now. You long for us to heal.

ow during those days he went out to the mountain to pray; and he spent the night in prayer to God. " And when day came, he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles: ' Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, '5 and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot,
"and Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor. '7 He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and Sidon. is They had come to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. " And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for power came out from him and healed all of them.
Then he looked up at his disciples and said:
"Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 "Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be filled. "Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 2 "Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets. 24 "But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. 25 "Woe to you

Praying today with Hosea 5- let us pray 🙏: O Lord what a mess the people are, and how much You just want us to return to You. I’m sorry. You tell us “I desire steadfast love, and not sacrifices,” but we keep sacrificing. I’m sorry. Help us. Come like the spring rain, like the fall nor’easter.

wrath like water. " Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to go after vanity. "Therefore I am like maggots to Ephraim, and like rottenness to the house of Judah. ' When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound. " For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I myself will tear and go away; I will carry off, and no one shall rescue. I will return again to my place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face. In their distress they will beg my favor:
"Come, let us return to the LorD; for it is he who has torn, and he will heal us; he has struck down, and he will bind us up. 'After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, that we may live before him. " Let us know, let us press on to know the LorD; his appearing is as sure as the dawn; he will come to us like the showers, like the spring rains that water the earth."
What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes away early.
› Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets, I have killed them by the words of my mouth, and my judgment goes forth as the light. For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Hosea 4:11-19
A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Hosea.
WHOREDOM. Wine and new wine take away the
understanding.
My people consult a piece of wood, and their divining rod gives them oracles. For a spirit of whoredom has led them astray, and they have played the whore, forsaking their God. ' They sacrifice on the tops of the mountains, and make offerings upon the hills, under oak, poplar, and terebinth, because their shade is good. Therefore your daughters play the whore, and your daughters-in-law commit adultery. 'I will not punish your daughters when they play the whore, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery; for the men themselves go aside with whores, and sacrifice with temple prostitutes; thus a people without understanding comes to ruin. ' Though you play the whore, O Israel, do not let Judah become guilty. Do not enter into Gilgal, or go up to Beth-aven, and do not swear,
"As the LorD lives." " Like a stubborn heifer, Israel is stubborn; can the Lord now feed them like a lamb in a broad pasture? ' Ephraim is joined to idols- let him alone. 1 When their drinking is ended, they indulge in sexual orgies; they love lewdness more than their glory. " A wind has wrapped them in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their altars.

FTER this he went out and saw a tax collector named Levi, sitting at the tax booth; and he said to him, "Follow me." 28 And he got up, left everything, and followed him. 2 Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house; and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting at the table with them. 30 The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying,
"Why do you eat and drink
with tax collectors and sinners?" " Jesus answered,
"Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; 32l have come to call not the righteous but sinners to repentance." 33 Then they said to him, "John's disciples,
like the
disciples of the Pharisees, frequently fast and pray, but your disciples eat and drink. 3* Jesus said to them,
"You cannot make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them, can you?
35 The days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days." 3° He also told them a parable: "No one tears a piece from a new garment and sews it on an old garment; otherwise the new will be torn, and the piece from the new will not match the old. 37 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. 3* But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. 39 And no one after drinking old wine desires new wine, but says, 'The old is good."

But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. < Back = Morning Prayer
A Reading from the Gospel According to Luke.
ONCE while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd
was
pressing in on him to hear the word of God, 2 he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were
washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boar. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch." 5 Simon answered, "Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing.
Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets." When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!" 9 For he and all who were with him were amazed at the carch of fish that they had taken; 0 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people." " When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.

Praying today with Matthew 21- let us pray 🙏: O Lord, Your ways are not our ways and for this I give thanks. Truly, You tell us, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God first. Not the high and mighty. Not the rich and powerful. But as You see. Flip my world today.
WHEN he entered the temple, the chief priests
and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said, "By what authority are you doing these things, and who gave you this authority?" 24 Jesus said to them, "I will also ask you one question; if you tell me the answer, then I will also tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 Did the baptism of John come from heaven, or was it of human origin?" And they argued
with one another,
"If we say, "From
heaven, he will say to us, Why, then, did you not believe him?' 2' But if we say, 'Of human origin,' we are afraid of the crowd, for all regard John as a prophet." 27 So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." And he said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
"What do you think? A man had two sons; he went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work in the vineyard today.' 29 He answered, 'I will not,' but later he changed his mind and went. 30 The father went to the second and said the same, and he answered, 'I go, sir, but he did not go. 3' Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said,
"The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the kingdom of God ahead of you. 3*For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him, and even after you saw it you did not change your minds and believe him.

Praying today with Esther 8- let us pray 🙏: O Lord, even though she and Mordecai are now good, Queen Esther asks, “how can I bear to see the calamity that is coming upon my people?” For we who are near power, how can we stand idle? Give me the courage of Esther to use my proximity for my people.

ĐN THAT day King Ahasuerus gave to Queen Esther the house of Haman, the enemy of the Jews; and Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was to her. 2 Then the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. So Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
Then Esther spoke again to the king; she fell at his feet, weeping and pleading with him to avert the evil design of Haman the Agagite and the plot that he had devised against the Jews. 4 The king held out the golden scepter to Esther, S and Esther rose and stood before the king. She said, "If it pleases the king, and if I have won his favor, and if the thing seems right before the king, and I have his approval, let an order be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote giving orders to destroy the Jews who are in all the provinces of the king. For how can I bear to see the calamity that is coming on my people? Or how can I bear to see the destruction of my kindred?" 7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and to the Jew Mordecai, "See, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows, because he plotted to lay hands on the Jews. & You may write as you please with regard to the Jews, in the name of the king. and seal it with the king's ring; for an edict written in the name of the king and sealed with the king's ring cannot be revoked."

"What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be fulfilled."
3 Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have won your favor, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me-that is my petition-and the lives of my people-that is my request. + For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. If we had been sold merely as slaves, men and women, I would have held my peace; but no enemy can
compensate for this damage to the king." S Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther, "Who is he, and where is he, who has presumed to do this?"
6 Esther said, "A foe and enemy, this wicked Haman!" Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
The king rose from the feast in wrath and went into the palace garden, but Haman stayed to beg his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that the king had determined to destroy him. * When the

Haman went out that day happy and in good spirits. But when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, and observed that he neither rose nor trembled before him, he was infuriated with Mordecai; 1° nevertheless Haman restrained himself and went home. Then he sent and called for his friends and his wife Zeresh, "and Haman recounted to them the splendor of his riches, the number of his sons, all the promotions with which the king had honored him, and how he had advanced him above the officials and the ministers of the king. "Haman added, "Even Queen Esther let no one but myself come with the king to the banquet that she prepared.
Tomorrow also 1 am invited by her, together with the king. " Yet all this does me no good so long as I see the jew Mordecai sitting at the king's gate."
14 Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, "Let a gallows fifty cubits high be made, and in the morning tell the king to have Mordecai hanged on it; then go with the king to the banquet in good spirits." This advice pleased Haman, and he had the gallows made.

John 12:36b-43
A Reading from the Gospel According to John.
WHiLE you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light." After Jesus had said this, he departed and hid
from them.
Although he had performed so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in him. 3ö This was to fulfill the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"
39 And so they could not believe, because Isaiah also said, 40 "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they might not look with their eyes, and understand with their heart and turn- and I would heal them." 4' Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke about him.
Nevertheless many, even of the authorities, believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved human glory more than the glory that comes from God.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people.

"An angel has spoken to him." 3° Jesus answered,
"This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. 3' Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be driven out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the carth, will draw all people to myself." 33 He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die. 34 The crowd answered him, "We have heard from the law that the Messiah remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?" 3> Jesus said to them, "The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. THEN Job answered the LORD: 2"I know that & you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 3 Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you declare to me! I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; " therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."
After the LorD had spoken these words to Job, the LorD said to Eliphaz the Temanite: "My wrath is kindled against you and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has. ® Now therefore take seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept his prayer not to deal with you according to your folly; for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has done." 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did what the Lord had told them; and the LoRD accepted Job's prayer.

The First Lesson
Job 40:1,41:1-11
A Reading from the Book of Job.
ND the LORD said to Job:
"Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook, or press down its tongue with a cord? "Can you put a rope in its nose, or pierce its jaw with a hook?
3 Will it make many supplications to you? Will it speak soft words to you? 4 Will it make a covenant with you to be taken as your servant forever?
5 Will you play with it as with a bird, or will you put it on leash for your girls? "Will traders bargain over it? Will they divide it up among the merchants? Can you fill its skin with harpoons, or its head with fishing spears? ® Lay hands on it; think of the battle; you will not do it again!? Any hope of capturing it will be disappointed; were not even the gods overwhelmed at the sight of it?

Who can confront it and be safe? —under the whole heaven, who?

Praying today with John 3 on Holy Cross Day- let us pray 🙏: Healing is Your children’s portion, but we spend so much time on John 3:16 signs at football games that we never read John 3:17, O Lord. You did not come to condemn but to save. Save us from our foolish ways. Lift our eyes up. Heal us. Amen
The Second Lesson
John 3:11-17
A Reading from the Gospel According to John.
ERY truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. "If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? " No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. '4 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, ' that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. "Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to God's people.
Thanks be to God.

My kingdom for a bot that tweets out this journal article anytime someone posts about #football / NFL: “At minimum, nearly a quarter of all former #NFL players who died during 2016-21 had CTE neuropathology at death. “ www.bmj.com/content/bmj/...
CONCLUSIONS
At minimum, nearly a quarter of all former NFL players who died during 2016-21 had CTE neuropathology at death. Among NFL player brain donors, dementia diagnosed based on records before death was common and associated with stage IV CTE.

"For this reason the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his slaves. 24 When he began the reckoning. one who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him, 25 and, as he could not pay, the lord ordered him to be sold, together with his wife and children and all his possessions and payment to be made. 2So the slave fell on his knees before him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything? 2 And out of pity for him, the lord of that slave released him and forgave him the debt. 2 But that same slave, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow slaves who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him by the throat he said, 'Pay what you owe? 29 Then his fellow slave fell down and pleaded with him,
'Have patience with me, and I will pay you. 3º But he refused; then he went and threw him into prison until he would pay the debt. 3" When his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place. 32 Then his lord summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked slave! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. Should you not have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I had mercy on

Praying today with John 11- let us pray 🙏: O Lord, I need a Savior who weeps for their friends. Who can handle the stink of four days of death. Who can put the gossip of the crowd behind them- because I cannot raise myself from the grave. I cannot remove the stone. Come to all who weep, O Lord.

ow Jesus had not yet come to the village, 2 but was still at the place where Martha had met him. 3" The Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary get up quickly and go out. They followed her because they thought that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32 When Mary came where Jesus was and saw him, she knelt at his feet and said to him,
"Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died."
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, he was greatly disturbed in spirit and deeply moved. 34 He said,
"Where have you laid him?" They said to him,
"Lord, come and see." 35 Jesus began to weep. 36 So the Jews said, "See how he loved him!" 37 But some of them said, "Could not he who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?" 3ö Then Jesus, again greatly disturbed, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39 Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, already there is a stench because he has been dead four days." 4° Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?" 4'So they took away the stone. And Jesus looked upward and said, "Father, I thank you for having heard me. 421 knew that you always hear me, but I have said this for the sake of the crowd standing here. so that they mav believe that vou sent me."

John 11:17-29
A Reading from the Gospel According to John.
WHEN Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus
had already been in the tomb four days.
1ö Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, some two miles away, " and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to console them about their brother. 20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, while Mary stayed at home. " Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 2 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of him." 23 Jesus said to her,
"Your brother will rise again." 24 Martha said to him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day." 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, 2 and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" 27 She said to him,
"Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one coming into the world."
28 When she had said this, she went back and called her sister Mary, and told her privately, "The Teacher is here and is calling for you." 29 And when she heard it, she got up quickly and went to him.

having heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." " The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were just now trying to stone you, and are you going there again?" 9Jesus answered,
"Are
there not twelve hours of daylight? Those who walk during the day do not stumble, because they see the light of this world. " But those who walk at night stumble, because the light is not in them." " After saying this, he told them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to awaken him." I The disciples said to him,
"Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will be all right."

5 when the Almighty was still with me, when my children were around me; "when my steps were washed with milk, and the rock poured out for me streams of oil!
When I went our to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square,

"When the car heard, it commended me, and when the eye saw, it approved; " because I delivered the poor who cried, and the orphan who had no helper. ' The blessing of the wretched came upon me, and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. 'I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my justice was like a robe and a turban. I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.

for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year for you.
3 Tell the whole
congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this month they are to take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each household. If a household is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join its closest neighbor in obtaining one; the lamb shall be divided in proportion to the number of people who cat of it. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a year-old male; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
"You shall keep it
until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembled congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. 7 They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. They shall cat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. Do not cat any of it raw or boiled in water but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs, and inner organs. ' You shall let none of it remain until the morning; anything that remains until the morning you shall burn with fire. "This is how you shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand, and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the Passover of the Lord. 11 will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from human to animal, and on all the gods of Egypt I

His disciples asked him,
"Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned; he was born blind so that God's works might be revealed in him. 4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work. S As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world" When he had said this, he spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva and spread the mud on the man's eyes, 7 saying to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which means Sent). Then he went and washed and came back able to see.
The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar began to ask, "Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?" 9 Some were saying, "It is he." Others were saying, "No, but it is someone like him." He kept saying, "I am the man." 10 But they kept asking him, "Then how were your eyes opened?" "He answered, "The man called Jesus made mud, spread it on my eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam and wash. Then I went and washed and received my sight." 12 They said to him,
"Where is he?" He said, "I do not know."
