I remember when iwtv 3x04 aired, I saw some people online wondering what was the point of the scene where lestat mind-controls a cop who raids the tour bus. to me, the scene was lestat showing off his powers to the people on the bus because he knew it'd appeal to them; he needs praise and admiration

the vampire armand as a novel seems more easily adaptable when you consider that it could be approached the way the iwtv writers did in season 3. you would have to play with structure to ground it in present-day storylines, with flashbacks that translate well to the screen

personally I really liked that louis had a proper storyline this season, and that he and lestat were at odds for most of it. I like that lestat and louis are never strictly in the role of "love interest" in each other's stories; nor are they ever strictly an "antagonist"

I will say that having read the first half of the vampire chronicles, it's interesting to see how much optimism anne rice infused it with re: the western world in the late twentieth century. whereas iwtv season 3 takes lestat's optimistic monologue about modern america and turns it upside down
