Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I love goofy stats like this! So wonderfully specific! 020
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 24/09/2026History says there’s a 1-in-3 chance of an all-Chicago World Series. You can’t argue with math. Congrats to everyone in my longtime hometown! 060

Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 01/09/2026The Cubs are now 4-4 in their last 8 games. Three of those wins were by scores of 19-2, 17-5, and 17-3. What a strange sport. 0112

Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 15/08/2026As someone who is only rooting for the Dodgers because I’m rooting for the Brewers to lose. Dear God, what is wrong with Dave Roberts? Please, Dodgers offense, take an 11-2 lead into the 9th tomorrow. Please! 020
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 14/08/2026This is very cool! I’ve been toying with the idea of adding AAGPBL stats at Retrosheet. And may still do so eventually. But it’s great to see that these stats are out there somewhere! 081

Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 09/08/2026Retrosheet is pleased to announce its first semi-annual release of 2026. Highlights include box scores for the 1897 NL, play-by-play for the 1908 and 1909 AL/NL, and the 1933 and 1934 Negro League seasons. Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 07/08/2026For those unaware, I just wanted you to know, there was an actual major-league pitcher 100 years ago who went by the name “Lil Stoner”. 171
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 29/07/2026Should be boarding my first flight soon en route to Cleveland for #SABR54. I’ll be leading the Retrosheet meeting Friday afternoon. And yesterday, got an unexpected treat. I’ll be giving a presentation Friday morning subbing for a presenter who can’t make it. Very excited! 270
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 19/07/2026I love lists like this. No disrespect to those four guys - Lee May was the DH for my first favorite team; loved the bat waggle. But you’d kind of expect a Hall-of-Famer or two on that list. (Note the date for Frank Thomas; that’s not the Big Hurt.) 060
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 17/07/2026One of my favorite hidden gems at Retrosheet is our 2020 MLB schedule, which can be downloaded here: www.retrosheet.org/schedule/ind... It's such a perfect historical document. (1/5)retrosheet.orgRetrosheet Original regular season Schedules 173
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 07/07/2026So I live in Maine. Our dinner conversation tonight was about the obvious subject. Our conclusion on the “best” candidate to replace Platner was Troy Jackson - progressive, former President of the State Senate, just lost the Dem primary for governor. 110

Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 06/07/2026This has to be the most extreme contrast in pitching lines by consecutive pitchers for the same team in the same game. Mostly because who takes out a pitcher who’s throwing a fucking perfect game!? The baseball gods were not amused! 080
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 21/06/2026Got home from SABR’s Negro Leagues conference in Memphis - which was awesome! - to find my wife had framed and hung this poster (a gift to me from Dave Smith)! 0172

Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 29/05/2026This is a great conversation about a great (albeit disturbing) book. I first read the book 20+ years ago and viewed Henry as an alternate-universe version of my dad - who loved tabletop baseball. I re-read it this year when I am the same age as Henry (and the UBA) and it hit very different! 120
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 16/05/2026Reminds me of one of my all-time great “proud Dad” moments. Some forgettable Cubs starter allowed a run in the 1st and a run in the 2nd of his MLB debut. Me: A run per inning isn’t a great start to your career. Brandon: A Fibonacci sequence would be worse. 0102

Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 01/05/2026The Knicks-Hawks score reminds me of my alma mater’s first NCAA tourney appearance. Valpo was a 14 seed and had to play 3-seed Arizona at Arizona State. The score was 51-15 at halftime. I was there for that game. And the game two years later that you might have seen a highlight from. 130
Tom Thress @retrosheettom.bsky.social · 22/04/2026In honor of the 150th anniversary of the first game in National League history - which is today - Retrosheet has added a box-score and play-by-play account of that game to our website. Thanks to MLB historian John Thorn for compiling the account here. www.retrosheet.org/B04220PHN187...retrosheet.orgFirst NL Game: Boston NL Team (BSN) 6 Philadelphia Athletics (PHN) 5 080

This means we now have box scores predating the existence of the American League, covering the entire Modern Era (and then some!)
