Most architectural histories focus on massive towers and solitary creators. Astra Zarina took a different path—teaching that cities exist in shared meals, historic roofs, and urban memory. #Architecture #WomenInArchitecture #UrbanDesign @hatjecantzverlag

The Architecture of Presence: Reclaiming Astra Zarina
Laura Helena Wurth’s monograph brings Astra Zarina’s ground-level urbanism back into focus. Laura Helena Wurth’s monograph offers a crucial corrective to modernist historiography, unearthing the life of Astra Zarina—an architect who understood that cities are built not merely of concrete, but of memory, rituals, and shared meals. In the canon of mid-century modernism, history has long suffered from a structural bias: a relentless obsession with the isolated object, the soaring tower, and the solitary male auteur standing victorious before a skyline of reinforced concrete. To exist within this dominant narrative, an architect had to erect monuments.

Cor de Lux's Tim Lusk and Dawn Moraga on Year Of The Horse Transmission 419: Interview with Cor de Lux Cor de Lux release their debut for Ipecac Recordings, Year Of The Horse, on September 18. Formed and based in North Carolina's Outer Banks, away from any indie-rock scene, the band pairs Tim Lusk and Dawn Moraga's vocals over intertwined guitars across nine songs produced by J. Robbins, moving between post-hardcore urgency, shoegaze tones and guitar catharsis that lands harder than either label suggests. The record surfaces a fractured strain of modern American life, from political disillusionment to the friction between individual conscience and inherited belief.

Dublin’s Tiny Magnetic Pets Return With the Astralux EP
Tiny Magnetic Pets Rework Their Own Songs on the Astralux EP Retrofuturista premieres the "Astralux" EP by Tiny Magnetic Pets, three tracks out August 21st, pointing the Irish trio toward a darker, more cinematic sound. The band is Paula Gilmer (vocals), Sean Quinn (keyboards, guitar) and Eugene Somers (drums), working between Dublin and Belfast, joined here by Seamus Quinn on bass. Astralux EP by Tiny Magnetic Pets The lead track, "Lost My Guiding Light (Again)," reworks a song from their second album "Deluxe/Debris." Sean Quinn says the band rearranged it for a Dublin dance festival, it became their live opener, and the 2026 re-recording earned its own title, a nod to Bowie's "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)." Paula Gilmer ties the song to losing direction, in life, work, faith, relationships, and asks listeners what their own guiding light is in 2026.

The Unsettling Plastic Tragedy of Identity: A Review of Identical by Leah Hayes
Between bioengineering nightmares, somatic horror, and the artificial flesh of maternal memory There is a subtly necrotic and deeply disturbing drive running through Leah Hayes's work in Identical, published by Fantagraphics and available now. In an era saturated with sanitized or technocratic narratives about Artificial Intelligence, Hayes performs an almost surgical, visceral gesture: she strips away the myth of humanity and technology to reduce it to an emotional autopsy, a raw parable on the imperfections of flesh and code. Identical operates within a brutal minimalism, almost fatalistic in its trajectory toward inevitable ruin.

Moitrot wrote "Le Blues du H.L.M." while his marriage was ending, setting it inside an H.L.M., the cheaply built high-rise housing common in France for low-income families.
