iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I can’t really bring myself to watch that programme as my stress levels are high enough already. I get angered at the invalidation of my daughter’s ADHD when I experienced the benefits of her medication.

Mini-collection from this C&VG advert for U.S.Gold MicroProse games F-15 Strike Eagle, Solo Flight, Spitfire Ace and NATO Commander. Solo Flight was the first Atari game I bought when I finally got the extra RAM for my 600XL.

Games magazine advert from 1984 along with copies of the games featured.

I was asked to take a look with a view to adoption for use in company offices. I was so disappointed. I think I was spoiled by having an Amiga at home.

My dear old mum I think believed Love Lift Us Up was about a couple living high up in a block of flats and would always to sing “the lift goes up where we belong”.

In the NE we got quite a few test markets. We had Wispas for one. I read recently it was because the demographics well represented the country and that hills surrounding the Tyne Tees TV region help to keep the advertising from spilling over into neighbouring regions.

Love this new pickup that arrived this morning. Synapse Software always produced quality titles on the Atari and this is a favourite. Drelbs. Not an easy game to describe, mostly you see it described as a maze chase but that really doesn’t cover it. Ported later to C64 and Apple ][.

Drelbs game for Atari 400/800 vintage home microcomputers.

Remind me if I am wrong, but under RLB in past seasons haven’t they looked a little lacklustre in pre-season and not had good results but then started the actual season with a bang?

My wife and daughter can recommend the castle highly. Lots of interaction with actors in-character from Hamlet. Unfortunately I missed out as my son was not interested and we ended up at a ropey transport museum.

First day on my uni Computing Science course the lecturer said “hands up who studied A-level computing”. Lots of keen hands went up. “You people are all at a disadvantage” he quipped. Harsh but we were learning lots of (enforced) structure in Pascal whereas those guys had picked up bad BASIC habits.

This morning I had two Archimedes A3010s, one known working and one unknown. Had a couple of hours so finally got around to battery removal and any necessary cleanup. The working machine had some leakage damage, the other was clean and has an IDE drive. I now have two non-working A3010s. Typical.

I’m not in favour of all-digital, though it will mean a hard stop on my collecting which could be a good thing. But these games do usually come down in price when sales drop during the title’s lifetime (except for Nintendo). It does however prevent the early adopter recouping some funds.

If a dog is badly behaved and trained and so causes more stress and problems for the owner then it’s really not much of a support dog! Highly dubious.

A bit of cleaning in the sun on this Spectrum 128. No retrobrighting needed - the benefit of black old computers.

A woman screamed in the cinema at *that* jump scare in Jaws when I saw it. Really screamed. A girl sat next to me was sobbing when she thought Iron Man was dying in Avengers Infinity War. Biggest reaction though was a whole audience in silence leaving Schindler’s List. Absolute silence, not a word.

I wish him luck. Unfortunately my son was not able to get a placement during his mechatronics course which is a real shame. In fact nobody on his course managed so all just going straight into their final year. It seemed so much simpler when I was leaving uni.

Just arrived - the Programmer’s Reference Manual for RISC OS 3. Just waiting now for the C/C++ compiler set to go with it. Reading the first chapters on the Archimedes really makes me think the Archies should have trounced the Amiga. Seems to beat it on every metric.

No PEEK nor POKE on the TI-99/4a. Unless you got the Extended BASIC cartridge. It being such a closed system was the main reason I jumped ship to Atari.

I hope you are never in a situation where you are thought of negatively because fewer than half of the people around you have unacceptable views. Less than half of the voters in Clacton voted for him and I feel for those that didn’t as they are labelled extreme and don’t deserve Farage as their M.P.

RetroElectroDad @retroelectrodad.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

They are real and are being used. Also there are over 50% of the voters that did not vote for him. They are all being used.

RetroElectroDad @retroelectrodad.bsky.social · 08/07/2026

You have to feel that the people of Clacton are being used. Due to an attempt to avoid scrutiny they end up forced into a by-election between a joke candidate and a bin.

Mine was probably my first hyperspace jump in Star Raiders on my Atari 600XL. Exiting hyperspace with warning klaxon sounding and enemies heading towards me in 3D space. Amazingly on an 8K cartridge.

I have a feeling it was a matter of “OK I’ll go to Chelsea if SAFC want to sell” rather than “make it happen” and Chelsea have not made it sound like they really want him with their low-balling.

It’s so clear how the right wing controlled media and the leave campaign were able to prime many of the electorate with buzzwords that sound important but had no substance. Also feeding us with lies that were never adequately challenged.

RetroElectroDad @retroelectrodad.bsky.social · 22/06/2026

What they’re doing is perhaps in the spirit of Commodore though. Think of the card shielding, cut-down cut-price BASIC and broken, slow floppy disk interface on the C64.

Yeah, just that slightly out of tune frequency nature is an issue unless you combine voices (though then you are down to 2 or 3) or restrict it to just notes that are not so “off” 🙂 But I suppose when they had SID to work with as musicians they probably had no desire to try other chips.
