What explains Elon Musk’s success? Economics textbooks say free markets create innovators. New economy thinking argues taxpayers fund the research, science, and take the risk, while entrepreneurs commercialise and take the credit. What do you think? Discuss below 👇 #EconomicInequality

There's a reason democracy is in crisis and climate breakdown is escalating. Your daily reminder that we collectively have enough - it's just in the hands of too few.
Graduated purple and yellow background. Text says 'Musk just became the world's first billionaire. Here's 4 things that could be done with that money. Provide clean water to everyone for 20 years. Rebuild Gaza 14 times over. Fund global famine relief 166 times over. Give everyone $125.

A better, more equitable world is possible. Ending inequality and avoiding climate breakdown are two sides of the same coin.
Blue text says: 90% OF THE WORLD COULD DOUBLE THEIR INCOME WHILE WORKING HALF AS MUCH. A global transition to a world where the climate is protected and everyone experiences high levels of wellbeing is possible if three conditions are met, according to a new report. FAST DECARBONISATION. IN ORDER TO DO SO WE ALSO NEED SUFFICIENCY. BUT NEITHER OF THESE CAN BE ACHIEVED WITHOUT MASSIVELY REDUCING WEALTH AND POWER INEQUALITY.

Football comes from & created strong communities but this world cup shows what football for a few looks like here are the issues:
High ticket prices Deadly emissions
ICE involvement
FIFA’s partnership with Aramco Dispossession of local communities
Money spent instead of on public services

So often the preventing climate breakdown is pitched against a healthy economy. Of course, addressing the climate crisis challenges an economic system based on growth. But even without that many of the arguments used are based on disproven myths.
Photo of a broken iceberg. Text says: Let's debunk the myths around econ and climate. False myths: #1: climate action increases cost of living. #2: renewable energy is more expensive. #3: certain industries are essential for the economy.

A recent decision in Scotland is a major boost for the community wealth building movement. To learn more about community wealth building take a look at this from @doughnuteconomics.bsky.social: doughnuteconomics.org/stories/comm...
Photo looking over Glasgow river. Text: KEEPING WEALTH IN COMMUNITIES IS ECON JUSTICE. In today’s system so much of what we spend leaks out of our communities

When it leaks out it extracts from the community and creates wealth and power for a small number of people

In February, Scotland passed a law requiring public bodies to focus on the creation and retention of wealth in local economies

It’s the first time a western country put this into law & a major boost for the community wealth building movement.

Yet again, fossil fuel execs and arms companies get rich off violence and destruction. In a global economy built on fossil fuels and militarism, a small number of super wealthy people are getting even richer.
Red background with outline of Iran. Text explains oil execs and arms companies are profiting from war in Iran. Defense contractors and oil companies are making huge amounts of money from the war in Iran and the global instability it is causing. Arms company Lockheed Martin, a central defense contractor of the US government, saw it’s stock price 25% since the start of the year. The price of US-produced oil has shot up following the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz leading the share price of US oil companies to boom.

Decolonising education starts with looking at our current education systems critically. When it comes to prioritising one knowledge system we see this heavily with econ education. #RethinkingEconomics is #decolonising economics.
Square text book paper. Title says: COLONIALISM HAS FUNDAMENTALLY SHAPED GLOBAL EDUCATION SYSTEMS. Arrow pointing to next slide says 'here's how'.Square text book paper. Text: Under colonialism education serves to ensure the continued governance of the population - to do so it reinforces social hierarchies, supresses Indigenous knowledge, and creates ‘elite’ forms of education

From what our curriculums look like through to who has access to education - we still live with the impact today. Photo from Rhodes must fall campaign of students with banner saying 'don't diversify, decolonise'.Square text book paper. Text: How we learn. Rather than allowing for many different forms of learning, schooling becomes about following the coloniser’s one set approach

With European colonialism teaching through oral traditions, apprenticeships, or land-based learning were replaced with teacher-centred, text-based and exam-driven approaches. Photo of trees beside.Same background. Text: Before British colonisation India had a rich and decentralised education system that operated in regional languages as well as Sanskrit

Colonialism marginalised Indian knowledge systems - centuries of scientific, medical and philosophical advancements were erased

Not only did this impact education but it sought to erase Indian identity.
