Amazon couldn't even get people to use Dash buttons! Remember those? Arguably more useful than AI, at least you could just mash a button when you're washing your linens and notice you're running out of detergent.

I had a cat who had cancer and lost lots of weight. During treatment I started calling her Fat Girl out of hope. She was on steroids long enough to get diabetes and need insulin shots. I always started the ritual by seeking her out, picking her up, and asking "Fat girl, are you ticklish?" RIP Eggo.

This is Herbie (or Herbert if she's misbehaving.) She was the first cat my husband and I got, a year after we were married. I miss her a lot.

This is why you use MiniGladys, a front end for Wikipedia w/ some very useful extras like Gossip Machine. Gossip Machine analyzes page views for Wikipedia articles (like 'Robert Kraft', highlights spikes, and turns them into Google News searches. Free, no ads. megagladys.com/mg/ 1/2

Put Piker in Wikipedia Seismograph to see if this RNC event is raising public interest in him and the answer appears to be no; he's gotten a bump but nothing compared to public interest when he was helping campaign in Wisconsin in early August. (Public interest as measured by Wikipedia page views)

Starting September 11th or 12th and continuing through the following year I maintained a 9/11 resource site that was later archived by Library of Congress. I was looking at it today and noticed the pointer to the article about "World Trade Center Cough." September 2002

This is what I made MiniGladys for ( megagladys.com/mg/) . Put Mast's name in, choose the Gossip Machine tab, and you'll get a list of when Mast was the object of public attention (as measured by Wikipedia page views) since 2017. The highest period of interest? When Mast wore an IDF uniform.

I did a search for "fascism" across educational institutions in DC, no filtering by characteristics because it wasn't a huge number of schools. The results looked interesting, but unfortunately I have a bunch of RSS to catch on and can't dive down this rabbit hole at the moment

Correct. I put JC in Wikipedia Seismograph 5/26-now. The spike I bracketed is when JC was expressing doubt that Talarico could win. Wondering if a D candidate can win in Texas! Oh the horror! Also if you look at her news stories like this you can really see the right-wing outlets taking potshots

Checking to see if Melania stole any of Natalie's thunder yesterday, using Wikipedia Trend Check so I can see the page views clearly (each line gets its own y axis.) Melania (red) has a trend of dropping views but a big spike in the last few days. After a surge Natalie has dropped back a bit.
A screenshot of Wikipedia Trend Check comparing Natalie Harp and Melania Trump's page views between 7/20 and now. After a downward trend, Melania Trump's views have spiked over the last few days, while Natalie Harp's huge surge of the last few days has dropped sharply. (Melania Trump gave a speech yesterday which is probably what drives this.)

That's her and her boss sneaking off a plane. And while that's unsavory, one might expect from the ebb and flow evidenced by her page that interest would wane again. But something sent it into orbit and now everybody is talking about Natalie Harp after months of sputtering media coverage. Why? 9/x
110
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
The May one was mostly about the crazy stuff DJT posts and night and Harp helping him, while the June one was most people observing that Harp and DJT seem to have a weird dynamic. Two months ago! But what is that BIG spike in August? 8/x
100
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
This is her chart zoomed in to May forward. You see that I've marked two more view bumps here -- one in mid-May and one in late June. And notice the spikes are hitting about the same level, around 24K views. Very consistent surges in public interest. What were those spikes for? 7/x
100
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Let's take a look at those two bumps that cover mid-February to mid-March. In coverage here, Harp is referred to as "somehow weirder than you thought," and a "nutter conduit" based on Michael Wolff's book. Now let's get a little closer to present day. We'll zoom in starting in May. 6/x
100
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Here are the Google News results for Natalie Harp in that time span. As you can see many of them are about her going to the White House after the 2024 election. It's also clear that she was a known quantity; the NYT referred to her as an potential "gatekeeper of information" for DJT. 5/x

Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
The Seismograph has a marking mode where you click either side of a timespan that looks interesting & generate a date-bounded Google News search. That little collection of bumps spans less than six weeks so let's look at all of it. Clicking "Search Google News" opens a result page in a new tab. 4/x
100
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
The bumps on the graph are when the topic of Natalie Harp was a focus of public interest as measured by Wikipedia page views. 23K may not seem like a lot but the page average at that time was less than a hundred. So the bumps are there, but WHY? 3/x
100
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Wikipedia Seismograph measures deviations in Wikipedia page views to chart periods of public interest in topics. Natalie Harp apparently got her page in early July 2024; here's the chart for her entire page's existence. 2/x
100
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
I don't remember if you can do this with Google Trends, but with the Seismograph you can mark spikes that look interesting and then turn them into date-bounded Google News searches. It's more useful for past news cycles, though, instead of when you're in the middle of it

Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
The Seismograph allows you to compare up to four pages at a time so just for giggles I added Mr. Ossoff himself. You can see that he's getting a bit of a push in public interest but it's nothing compared to her spike

I wanted to see if something similar was happening with Wikipedia Seismograph (which measures Wikipedia page views instead of Google Searches) and it sure does. This is 8/11-8/17 (page view data is on a one-day lag)

Google PLEASE fix the Google News date search, I gots to go through Moreno's Seismograph (The first big bump on his graph is the gay thing in March 2024)
020
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
I zoomed in because I wanted to see March better. That first bracket is the actual gay ad scandal: March 14-15. Then the surge after that is news about DJT campaigning for Moreno right before the election. And there was no time for attention to return to the gay thing before the primary.
000
Tara Calishain @researchbuzz.bsky.social · 01/08/2026
This is very interesting! I put Moreno in Wikipedia Seismograph for the year 2024. You see that tiny bump? That's the gay ad scandal in mid-late March. The larger bump immediately after is when Moreno won the nomination and the HUGE bump in November 2024 is when he won the election.

It analyzes page views of Wikipedia articles and charts the spikes over time. Just by clicking twice around a point on the chart you generate a date-based Google News search for the topic. The Seismograph is one of the eight tools that make up WikiTwister. They're all free. Enjoy! 45/45

This is exactly why I made the Temporary Obsessions Feed Reader. Deutsche Bank has been into all kinds of shit but I won't remember to check back. Two keyword-based feeds courtesy Kebberfegg, into the TOFR, and I'll get one week's worth of updates at the beginning of Aug and Sept, longer if I like.
A screen shot of the Temporary Obsessions Feed Reader, a Google Sheet based method to temporarily follow RSS and get their updates by email. Making a new search tool (Peabody Search) to create Google queries across specific years and state news sources. It's very interesting to compare the query "Lindsey Graham" "Donald Trump" in 2015 SC news stories vs 2016 news stories.
Google search result for "Donald Trump" "Lindsey Graham" in 2016 SC news sources. The three headlines in order are:

- Sen. Graham on GOP backing Trump: 'Party has gone batsh*t crazy'
- Graham seems to change attitude on Trump: "I like what I see"
- Sen. Lindsey Graham: 'If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed'

I do not like Schumer but how is this his fault? Platner got his first bump of public attention / interest (as measured by Wikipedia page views) when he was endorsed by Bernie Sanders at the end of August. 2nd bump was when he attended a rally with Sanders.

In comparison here is Susan Collins' chart which goes back almost 10 years to the beginning of 2017. I bet you can guess what that giant-ass spike is in 2018. Yup, that's when she confirmed Kavanaugh.
Susan Collins' Wikipedia Seismograph chart going back to January 1, 2017. She has a fair number of spikes on her chart but they are all overshadowed by a view spike of over 250,000 on October 5, 2018, when Collins voted to confirm Kavanaugh.

I've been looking at Graham Platner's Wikipedia Seismograph chart, which maps spikes in page views over time. His page is less than a year old but as you can see there are lots of interesting spikes. 1/2

Just for giggles I put "Democratic Party members of the Maine House of Representatives" into WikiCat Main Characters to see who is the subject of the most public interest (as measured by page view data.) I'm measuring recently-popular (June 2026) as opposed to all-time popular. 1/2
