We’ve been talking about this for years. None of these far-right movements are organic.

PR maturity is another great metric - measuring how much a PR changes after submission. less change being 'good'. I guess at least it really codifies that PRs are quality theater?

Roland Eschenburg @reschex.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
whoa - because it considers all changes to code younger than 21 days 'rework' instead. a low %tage being 'good'.

Roland Eschenburg @reschex.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
LinearB considers %tage of refactored code a quality metric - nice. LinearB only considers code refactored if it was changed when it was 21 days or older - huh?

The tragedy in this is what Tim Ottinger called “If you assign some work, you have to assign all work”. Sometimes-self-organising-teams don’t exist. If they are used to being told what ticket to work on, you get exactly those questions..

Having to code on a personal Claude Pro subscription is cramping my style. Only a couple of weeks until the new job starts, which will hopefully have me back on an enterprise plan!

The only reason I tolerate Xcode is because I feel like I need it for iOS development. Having the simulators etc is handy and I’m too lazy to check if I could cut it out of the toolchain. Otherwise I find it horrible as an IDE 🤢

Listening to @lennysan.bsky.social’s podcast episode about Grok Bot - sounds amazing - shame it’s associated with Elmo - one of the worlds biggest evil idiots. Can’t believe someone with that much influence still talks about the platform formerly known as twitter and gives these people air time.

Lets be honest, those developers wouldn't be sitting on their hands. They would probably use that time to improve some pipelines or make some tests faster.. but for most companies that would still look like 'nothing', because who cares about that, right?

Another one.. new outlook.. why is the 'accept/decline' meeting button the smallest, most difficult button to find on the entire meeting invite? Seriously, have you never talked to a user?? I know what's missing from the UX.. a little Where's Waldo.

Notice how he doesn't say 'don't plan or analyse'. You are allowed to look at a map before setting off somewhere. Just don't assume one look at the beginning of the journey is enough to help you navigate around traffic jams, road closures or bio breaks.

but I doubt there will be wide adoption of those, as we already have mature languages that do the job.

Roland Eschenburg @reschex.bsky.social · 30/06/2026
I think you'll see less 'we're a java house or a python house' or whatever.. more people will chose the language based on important characteristics, like memory or type safety, speed (of execution vs development) etc. will new 'token efficient' languages spawn? maybe..

Roland Eschenburg @reschex.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
The problems are still not visible enough. Where it previously took ~years to paint yourself into an unmaintainable corner and the same time again for that drag to register with and be correctly diagnosed (if ever) by the relevant people, you can now paint yourself into that corner in weeks.

I've never been a software engineer, so for me reviewing every line was never an option. I strongly believe in 'I am Ralph' - I drive the loops supported by as many deterministic signals as I can, while reviewing the inputs (feature files, scenarios, test names etc) and the outcomes (not output)

that was a large part of the conversation at CITCON. The question isn't new and should be asked of any improvement initative or tool change. But if you weren't able to tell/measure before AI, you won't be able to tell about AI. 'we're using lots of tokens' is not going to cut it..

Uber’s COO has said that it’s getting “harder to justify” its AI costs because there was no way to show a link between AI spend and any meaningful increase in useful features. This is the first time I’ve seen a company say this directly. www.businessinsider.com/uber-coo-and...
"That link is not there yet, right?" he said. think maybe implicitly there is more that is getting shipped, but it's very hard to draw a line between one of those stats and, 'Okay, now we're actually producing 25% more useful consumer features."
He said that the trade-off costs from Al are harder to justify because he can't draw a direct link. Earlier this month, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in an earnings call that Uber was slowing hiring to counter its investments in AI.The comment led to what he described as a
"head-exploding moment," sparking discussions about AI token consumption within the company and the trade-offs it creates, such as on head count.
He said that, based on talks with Uber's senior engineering leaders, he realized higher token usage did not translate into a proportional increase in useful consumer features.

I guess the formula would stay the same, the result would just be much more meaningful/accurate with mutation coverage, instead of test coverage. This is one of those .. use mutation scores if available, otherwise drop through to test coverage. Would have to make it identifiable, too.. 🤔
