My tour of Chicago State University highlighted yet another standout educational institution available to students of the 54th and beyond. Their on-site childcare center, an invaluable resource for student-parents, was a highlight of my visit!

On June 26, 2015, same-sex couples achieved marriage equality. Denmark, in 2001, became the 1st country in the world to codify protections for same-sex partnerships – the U.S. was the 18th. In the majority opinion, the Court declared, "The Constitution promises liberty to all within its reach."

First celebrated in Texas on June 19th, 1865, in recognition of the emancipation of the last enslaved people in Galveston, Juneteenth was made a state holiday on June 16, 2021 and a national one the day after. My office will be closed today in observance of the holiday.
