The strength of Texas has always depended on the strength of its workers, and we must commit to prioritizing working families across our state.

Happy Labor Day! Today, we honor the working men and women who built our communities and the labor unions that fought for the wages, benefits, workplace protections, and rights many of us now enjoy.

Our tax dollars should fund the public schools educating 5.3 million Texas kids, not act as a $10,000 bonus for families who can already afford private tuition. Republican priorities are entirely disconnected from real life.

It requires extra money, transportation, and flexible schedules that most parents just don't have. Meanwhile, nearly half of our public schools—which provide hot lunches, after-school care, transportation, and accept EVERY student—are facing massive budget deficits.

We said it before, and the data proves it again: Vouchers are NOT school choice. More than 20,700 Texas students who were awarded vouchers have already dropped out of the program. Why? Because private school isn't a realistic option for working families.
dallasnews.com
Most Texas students who returned their voucher were previously in public school
Education experts say the numbers confirm their early warnings. Getting approved for a voucher is a starting point — actually using it can prove challenging.

Republican leadership continues to deny $10 billion of Medicaid funding annually, despite Texas leading the nation in rural hospital closures and over 80% of Texas’ counties federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).

Republican leadership expects our teachers to serve our communities, support themselves & their families, & take on the cost of higher education to meet certification requirements.   Pursuing a career as a teacher has become economically unrealistic and it is affecting our public education.

Texas teachers are paid $8,500 less than the national average, while their pay has also failed to keep pace with inflation. Over the past decade, teachers have lost an average of $5,000 in buying power across all years of experience.

When protections are weakened, these damages increase, putting at risk the health of our children, our economy, and the enjoyment of our natural wonders. Texans deserve leadership that protects our health and conserves our natural resources for the enjoyment of our future generations. #EarthDay

At a time when Texans need relief from rising costs, policies that increase financial strain are moving in the wrong direction.

One year after Trump imposed tariffs, Texas small businesses are facing rising costs, tighter cash flow, and slower growth. These pressures don’t stop at the business level—they lead to higher prices for consumers, reduced services, and slower local economic growth across Texas communities.

Texas Republicans are inserting right-wing religious dogma into the public school curriculum. Indoctrinating children with religious and one-sided worldviews is how authoritarian political movements push their agenda.

Congress, not the President, has the authority to declare war. Americans are dying, civilians are being killed, and families are paying the price. Congress must reclaim its constitutional authority to declare war before more lives are lost.

A wall here would devastate the natural landscape, sever vital wildlife corridors, and hurt the local tourism that sustains our communities. We’ve made a difference—now let’s finish the job. Keep the pressure on Congress and tell them to completely remove Big Bend from their border wall proposal.

Thanks to widespread public pushback, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has removed large sections from its border wall proposal. However, the threat remains. Portions of Big Bend Ranch State Park are still on the table for construction.
