The bill doesn't tell the PUC what to decide, but it does ensure affordability, reliability, sustainability, economic impacts, and other important factors affecting ratepayers and communities are part of the conversation.

That's why I introduced HB 2184, legislation that would require the Public Utility Commission to consider the public interest when making decisions about utility rates and infrastructure.

The cost of almost everything is going up, and utility bills are one of the concerns I hear about most often from constituents. For too many Pennsylvania families already living on the financial edge, a sudden spike in utility costs isn't just an inconvenience; it's a crisis.

Please consider submitting a comment if you oppose opening our national forests to industrial activities like commercial logging, mining, and oil-and-gas drilling that could do irreparable damage.

The Forest Service has opened a public comment period until October 6th regarding this proposal. 🌲Our wild national forests are full of mature and old-growth trees that provide important wildlife habitat, as well as outdoor recreation opportunities like hiking, fishing, and camping.

🚨 Public Comment opportunity 🚨 The U.S. Forest Service is proposing to open 45 MILLION acres of America’s most pristine national forests for industrial activity including logging and road building. This includes 25,000 acres in Pennsylvania’s only national forest, the Allegheny National Forest.

Every year, beginning at 8:46 AM, the time the first World Trade Center tower was struck, the school community gathers to honor the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. It is a tradition rooted in respect, reflection, and a commitment to ensuring that future generations understand the weight of that day.

We have seen wars, we have seen lives lost in the pursuit of freedom, and we have seen deep divisions among Americans. We have also seen resilience, courage, and a deep commitment to service.

For those of us who remember that day, we have a responsibility to educate the next generation and keep the memory of those lives lost alive. We need to teach them what the world looked like before, and how much it has changed in the years since.

Now, a quarter century on, we have an entire generation of children and young adults who were not alive on that day. Their understanding of September 11 comes from documentaries, classroom lessons, and secondhand accounts.

Today we recognize the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. If you ask anyone who was alive then, I am sure they can tell you where they were, who they were with, and what they were doing when they learned of the tragic events unfolding.

But a state standard only goes so far if our regional, multi-state grid operator is permitted to operate by a different set of rules. That's why we're pushing to protect everyday ratepayers and put the public interest at the center of our conversations.
100
Rep. Danielle Friel Otten @repdanielle.com · 09/09/2026
My Public Interest bill, HB 2184, would require the PA Public Utility Commission (PUC) to weigh the public interest when a utility decision affects rates, reliability, or the safety of our communities.
100
Rep. Danielle Friel Otten @repdanielle.com · 09/09/2026
To fix that, we need to reform our regional grid operator, PJM Interconnection, which currently answers to the energy generators and transmission owners who benefit from the status quo instead of the ratepayers footing the bill for speculative data center demand.
