It was great celebrating Pastor Hoskins and 37 years of faithful service to Fountain of Life Church. I was there with Senator Mark Spreitzer, our Chief of Police, other community leaders, and members of the congregation to recognize Pastor Hoskins and the impact he has had on Beloit.

There’s even a plaque in downtown Beloit marking the spot where Lincoln gave his speech, a reminder that a little piece of American history happened right here in our community.

It’s pretty amazing that 167 years ago, Lincoln was standing in downtown Beloit talking about slavery and other issues facing our country at the time. A little over a year later, he would go on to be elected President.

On this day in 1859, Abraham Lincoln was in Beloit. Lincoln came to town after speaking at the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee the day before. His speech was originally supposed to be outside, but Wisconsin weather had other plans and pushed the event indoors.

I had the opportunity to be one of the judges for the Jumpstart South Central Wisconsin TechX Accelerator Pitch event at the Rotary River Center. After 10 weeks of work, six local entrepreneurs got the chance to pitch their businesses and ideas.
