NYDOH has research that shows burning landfill gas can release PFAS into the air. They have been asked by REC and Rensselaer County to find out if this is happening at the Dunn Landfill. In one case they said it is a permit issue. THIS A HEALTH ISSUE! A LAWSUIT DOES NOT STOP DOH FROM TAKING ACTION.

Do you think NY ought to determine what is in the dust that blows from the Dunn Landfill into the the nearby school and community? We ask but never get an answer. Why? Do they know they will have to do something if they find out and that would mean the operation of the landfill would be in jeopardy?

REC is extremely concerned about the NYSDEC concept of putting residual leachate treatment in a landfill. The idea of solving a PFA issue in one part of the environment, by creating another one in landfills, is not reasonable nor prudent. Seems to be an option of convenience to finish regulations.

So look how much Leachate goes in the rivers of New York -- all untreated from landfills. DEC is proposing each landfill to come up with their own method to treat leachate or send it to another landfill to treat it. stopdunn.org

Dunn Landfill permit ignored, and did not significantly address, the location next to our school while making it sound like they have in their public statements. Reality is they have done nothing to significantly address the threats to the school and the community. All talk and no real action.

Don’t you want to know what is going into the air from the Dunn Landfill? It can’t possibly be good to be breathing it. Since the State of New York is supposed to protect people you have ask why they don’t do the testing to find out what is inhaled by the kids in the school. Here is one answer $$$

This issue has received attention in the race for county executive, county legislators, Rensselaer Common Council, Rensselaer Mayor and East Greenbush Town Board. NY needs to reverse its socially irresponsible actions in approving and allowing its continuation with what amounts to self supervision.

Readings of particulate matter from the Rensselaer City School (NY) in June. We don’t know what is in those measurements. DEC and DOH ignored requests to test the air in and around the Dunn landfill for toxins. Prevailing wind blows toward the school. Huge failure to make certain the public is safe.

Times Union Letter to the Editor from Tom Ellis, an original member of REC calls on the DEC commissioner to close the Dunn Landfill. It would be a responsible action to review the 12/23/24 permit decision that produced significant public dissatisfaction and a pending lawsuit from the City and REC.
