Sustainability can feel daunting when every choice is measured against everything still left to do. But a step does not need to solve the whole problem to move us forward. Using less energy, choosing renewable electricity and reducing waste each address a different part of the challenge.

Good Climate News 😎💚 142,536 choices have added up to an encouraging milestone. Great Britain recorded 142,000+ new solar installations in the first half of 2026—the highest six-month total in 15 years. No single rooftop solves the energy transition. But each one moves us forward.

The afternoon sun can add more heat to your home than you might realize. Closing blinds or curtains on west-facing windows can reduce summertime solar heat gain by up to 77%, helping your home stay cooler without making your cooling system work as hard.

Power and energy are connected, but they are not the same. kW tells you how much power is being used at a given moment. kWh tells you how much energy is used over time. Since electricity use on your bill is measured in kWh, knowing the difference can help you read it with more confidence.

A higher or lower bill total only tells part of the story. Your kilowatt-hours, or kWh, show how much electricity you actually used. Start with kWh when comparing bills. For an even clearer picture, divide your total kWh by the number of billing days to find your average daily electricity use.
