I'm happy to show you the cover for my short story "Audit of the Collapse and Convalescence of Minds", coming next month to @reactorsff.bsky.social. This beautiful, enthralling art is by Mirko Ilić. The story is about the limits sentience and about forgiving yourself.
Cover art for short story: It shows Audit of the Collapse and Convalescence of Minds and the author name, Renan Bernardo, below. It shows a vintage-style android with goggling eyes and metal layers on its neck. Half of its head is fused with a female's head and their eyes intersect and shed a tear.

This AI spammer bot thinks I have a book called Clarkesworld Magazine and is reaching out for a giveaway. 🤦
The text:
Hey Renan,

We are putting together the next Crewfiction giveaway (both for KU and non-KU) and wanted to ask you in. 10-15 authors give away a book the same week, all pointing at one landing page.

I picked "Clarkesworld Magazine" because the depth is there and Book 1 can be set for free — the combo that makes the free week pay.

You'd come away with 1000+ new subs (yours to keep) plus readthrough sales across the rest of "Clarkesworld Magazine".

Crewfiction handles everything — emails, metrics, creatives, upsells, data analysis.

Interested?

Last week I went into an exposition of Yoshitaka Amano's artwork and it was so great and nostalgic! Amano's artwork for Final Fantasy had a deep impact in me. Here are some pics!
Final Fantasy VI illustration: Terra in a mecha. A blonde, white woman wearing red clothes controlling a big, black mecha. She's facing a grey and black city with high towers and baloons.Final Fantasy II illustration: a warrior in armor, cloak, brandishing a sword. Their helmet is horned and there are pouches on their waist. There's a female face on the background, looking sad.Final Fantasy VI illustration: Kefka, the villain. A smiling person wearing fun clothes all in red and with some balls along it. It's reminiscent of a clown. He's lying somewhere in a relaxed position, holding his cloak with gloved hands.Final Fantasy VII illustration: Cloud and Red XIII. A man with spiked hair wearing light armor. He's sitting with his sword beside him on the floor. He's accompanied by a tiger-looking creature. There are shrubs all around and a moon behind them.

Always happy to find a review like this for my (mostly forgotten) collection, Different Kinds of Defiance 🥰💚
An image with the following text: I bought this after reading Disgraced return as I really loved it. This was a wonderful collection of short stories. Such a rare treat to have environmental post apocalyptic fiction that ended up feeling postive and hopeful. The last story in particular stuck with me as a woman driven story, this wasn't a future where women were reduced to having children and the men were all warriors. It felt so much more realistic. There were still the now problems of money vs poverty, and the way both drove people to different types of crime. But also there was shared humanity and care for each other, and found family. I really enjoyed all the stories and will definitely pick up all the books Renan writes. I'm looking forward to reading what he does next.

Baloons with reviews around the book cover of Disgraced Return of the Kap's Needle (a skull in a space helmet):

"A claustrophobic sci-fi horror novella that will have you gasping for air."

"An amazing, impactful novella. I wasn’t expecting that ending. Just, wow."

"Bernardo really excels at creating a tense atmosphere."

"Perfect if you are looking for an impactful bite of the genre; Bernardo is a voice to keep a tab on!"

"A tense, clever, and dark exploration of the potential follies of space exploration."

"The ending is a total gut punch! Truly a top read of the year!" Arrows pointing to the book cover (a skull in a space helmet) with the tags: hallucinations, walk of shame in space, deadly fungus, a game of interests for breathable air, too much greed, mother's quest to save her son, first officer's quest to get richer and more powerful, enemies to... even more enemies.

Well paced and a satisfying quick read."Five stars with the text: "The title story is barely a novella, it's so short, but the tale of a spaceship forced to abort its mission to colonize a new planet and return - ten years in space each way - was so richly written that it didn't feel short at all.
