Maybe it's because in overwatch/val we all sort of know that a Professional Player is better holistically than basically everyone on the ranked ladder, even if those people are like 3700 (in a splatoon conversion). In splatoon I don't think that distinction exists and that's why the scale is weird

and like maybe devin4k is a masters player by japanese standards (I don't think this is accurate). But then make that clear that you're working on a different scale. Basically I don't think you've given yourself enough space for variation at the high end from "good player" to "#1 professional"

I feel like the nature of a discrete ranking system and the nature of our nondelineated ranking system means that they can't be compared it such like a cut and dry way (obviously this post is mostly for goofs and not to like establish a new way to approach X rankings)

I feel like the fact that our rank system is smooth with no delineation means that the number itself doesn't really mean very much besides like what broad category it fits into at the high end. Is a 3300 player MEANINGFULLY worse than a 3600 player? Enough where they would be another full tier?

I mean I feel like this scale is correct for Japan but weird when considering western players. This would make a lot of our Tier One/Two players (since we're making an esports allegory) barely or just above Masters in your eyes. If devin4k is six points from masters then the scale is weird somehow

at the end of the day, the point of the game is to win and you win by making better decisions than your opponent more often. if you're aiming for a certain playstyle, you're getting in the way of winning since you're trying to lock yourself into certain decisions regardless of how good they are
