iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

The cycle of a small fandom: you check the tag on ao3; it’s been over a month since any new fics were posted; you will check again tomorrow because hope springs eternal.

I’m deep in my Time War fic now and I’ve discovered the biggest hurdle: making up Time Lord names. Have you ever looked at Time Lord names? That’s Narvin…ectralonum. Romana…dvoratrelundar. They’re so silly. But it is possible to make up bad ones that don’t sound right so I need to give this thought

How much do you like these tropes? Enemies to lovers - 10/10 Second chance - 3/10 Fake dating - 5/10 Friends to lovers - 9/10 Age gap - 9/10 Found family - 4/10 Grumpy x sunshine - 4/10 Pregnancy - 0/10. -10/10 if we can go into the negatives. Slowburn - 4/10 Love triangle - 1/10

Planning my next fic. Gallifrey Chronicles, my beloathed, we meet again. Far, far from the worst thing Doctor Who has ever done* but I will never like or particularly respect it. Possibly my least favorite EDA. Unfortunately I need to check a couple of details so here we are.

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

For fun: in case you missed it and are keen on a novella’s worth of Doctor Who fanfiction, I finished my 8/Fitz fic yesterday. Identity issues and mutual codependence because it’s the EDAs

150

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

I finished my fic! The heart of light, the silence | Eighth Doctor Adventures | 8/Fitz | 34k words | Explicit The Doctor and Fitz, in the canon timeline and the Obverse. archiveofourown.org/works/92542191

042

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 08/09/2026

My 8/Fitz fic is finished except for editing. It’s almost 35,000 words so editing is going to take a minute. But I actually managed to finish it

140

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 02/09/2026

I’ve been re-listening to older Big Finish audio dramas and I’m on Cradle of the Snake, the 5th Doctor one with the Mara. I’d kind of forgotten that Mara!Doctor locks Turlough in a cage. Also that it’s super gay but that’s not surprising with the combination of 5, Turlough, Tegan, and Nyssa

020

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 31/08/2026

If anyone is wondering what’s happening with me, my Eight/Fitz fic is almost 25k words now and still not done. And now I’m planning a Five/Turlough fic featuring poorly negotiated bdsm because the fandom needs more of that. That one will probably also end up very long because I am who I am

040

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 25/08/2026

A take that shouldn’t be hot but probably is: show creators do not belong in the fandom for their show. It’s not good for anyone to have them here and there should be a separation. Online fandom spaces are for fans, not the people who created the thing we’re fans of.

040

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

Don’t overdo it on exposition. You can’t control the reader’s subjective experience and they won’t see it the way you do no matter how much you describe. Trust the reader and allow them to enjoy the story as is most compelling to them, even if it doesn’t exactly match your intent.

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 19/08/2026

My recent return to Doctor Who is turning into long-term residency. In addition to my Eight/Fitz wip (15k words and counting) I have an idea for a two-part story that involves a ship that, as far as I can tell, doesn’t exist. It doesn’t have an ao3 tag. So we’ll see what I do with that.

020

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 18/08/2026

If you've seen one of my WIP snippets, you know this, but I format all my fic documents like traditional manuscripts. Anything else looks wrong to me. It's a standard template that I use for everything. I'm not endorsing this. It serves no practical purpose in fandom, I just prefer it.

120

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

The problem with classic media is that it is an expensive hobby. Yes, a lot of things are online, but it also requires buying physical media that’s been out of print/production for anywhere from 15-40+ years. And it’s hard to spend $80 on a paperback that cost $5 when it was new.

0120

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

Happy Monday! I’m back with a piece of writing advice from someone who has been around: don’t even try to write for mass appeal. The trick is to write the exact fic you want to read operating under the assumption that maybe at most 5 other people want it, too. Go niche. It’s the key to happiness.

PSA: if you have never seen the Doctor Who tv movie (1996), you have missed out on a cinematic masterpiece. Do not be swayed by the naysayers who will tell you it’s terrible. They lack joy and whimsy and is that the sort of person you want guidance from? No, no it is not. Listen to me instead.

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

On the off chance anyone needs to hear this right now, derivative work is an equal art to original fiction. Fanfiction and original fiction call on different skills, but different isn't worse. A creative project isn't lesser just because it isn't something you can sell.

Rereading The Taking of Planet 5 and Fitz really needs to get with the monsterfucker program. (This is the one where we learn that Time Lords in the future regenerate themselves into eldritch tentacle monsters to fight the war with The Enemy. No, I am not making any of this up)

110

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Me trying to tell someone about my favorite film ever: so, it’s a comedy, but a lot of people think it’s depressing as shit. Which to be fair, it kind of is. But don’t worry about that, it’s fine, you’ll laugh. Probably. Either that or you’ll hate it. (The film in question is Withnail & I)

020

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

I really think a lot of fandom problems these days could be solved by taking on the Doctor Who mentality: everything is canon and nothing is canon. If you don’t like something, just ignore it. Don’t justify why you don’t like it or try to fix it, just act like it didn’t happen. Go forth and be free

15529

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

I just realized that it is, for another couple hours where I am, Wednesday. So a little bit of my extremely self-indulgent WIP!

170

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

My new fic really is turning into a ReminiscentBells Special: 11k words so far and at about the halfway point? Maybe? This is how 90% of my writing projects turn out. I think it'll be a quick little thing and then it spirals wildly out of control. It is earning its anticipated E rating, though.

1170

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

Every so often this comes up, so I want to mention publicly that if a fic of mine ever inspires you to create something, please don’t feel like you need my permission. I’d love to see or read it, but no need to ask. If inspiration strikes, you have my blessing 💜

0120

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

Okay, I'm back with one (1) piece of Time Lord/Gallifrey lore that I think everyone who likes Doctor Who should be aware of. When Gallifrey was conceived of back in the 70s the image was an old-school gentleman's club crossed with (wait for it) the Vatican. That's not a joke and it is 100% the vibe.

080

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 11/08/2026

I’ve recently realized that people who only know me from RA have never actually seen me at my most intensely passionate about a media property. Hazbin has nothing on niche Doctor Who for me. The Eighth Doctor Adventures and Gallifrey/Time Lord lore, and I am so deeply back in it right now.

180

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

The air quality is so bad this week. I live in western Washington and this is the worst fire season in over 30 years. I’m nowhere near any of the active wildfires and the AQI is 125. It smells like a campfire outside. I hate everything about this

130

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

I have to say, if you’ve never been in a small fandom you really should experience it. It’s very different from something like RadioApple because there are just so few people. No zines, no events, almost no fics or art, just you and the 30 other people in the world who care about this ship.

0192

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 05/08/2026

Trying to get back into socializing, so I’m here with a #wipwednesday! The same fic I’ve been working on, with Eight/Fitz.

040

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 26/07/2026

It’s not Wednesday but I haven’t shared a WIP for ages. So if anyone is curious about my foray into a different fandom, this is a little snippet. Some Eight/Fitz pining that Fitz absolutely is not going to acknowledge as such

040

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 24/07/2026

I’m approaching my new fic like an assignment. So far I’ve reread Interference (1 & 2), Ancestor Cell, The Blue Angel, Escape Velocity, The Year of Intelligent Tigers, and Fear Itself. Now I’m on Time Zero. There is a method to this. I’m revisiting specific scenes and plot points. Plotting.

060

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 22/07/2026

I seem to have fallen back into an old fandom, which means I’m writing an incredibly niche fic for a tiny audience. All of which is to say, my A-Z fic is probably going to be my only RA for a bit. I’m not out of this fandom, of course, but I am on holiday

So, I’m in in a sort of … dilemma. About a year and a half ago I got very overwhelmed with everything that was happening in my life and didn’t have the capacity to keep up with ao3 comments. This has left me with a lot I never replied to and I’ve always hated that I fell so far behind.

Today was my birthday and apparently is also the day I decide to start posting on this app again. I am still in the fandom, this just hasn't been my best year creatively so far. But I'm in a couple of upcoming projects and working on some things slowly, so stay tuned for that!

I'm working on a new long fic for 2026. Like A Momentary Radiance, I won't release any of it until it's done, but it's a true AU and very different from any of my other fics. I'm hoping to have it done by the end of winter to start posting in a couple of months!

I'm working on a fic for Christmas. It's not Christmas themed in the slightest, but I want to release it on the 24th, so that makes it a Christmas fic by force of technicality. One more story to wrap up 2025 and then we're off with a whole host of new things!

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 07/12/2025

I've been asked if I'd ever do a fic rec list, which is something I'm quite bad at because I'm bad at picking favorites. But there's some incredible talent in this fandom, so let's give it a shot! I bring you: 5 radioapple/appleradio fics I think you should read! In no particular order.

2142

Noe @reminiscentbells.bsky.social · 01/12/2025

I normally don't do this because I try not to pay too much attention to stats, but I took a look today and saw that All changed has over 1,000 bookmarks. That isn't even factoring in bookmarks on the individual fics and I'm just so touched and honored that so many people love that series.
