Apex Predators in the Anthropocene: How Humans Shape Large Carnivore Populations
Abstract. Humans and carnivores have shared landscapes for millennia, but never before have these interactions been more intense, complex, or consequential

New paper out on moose and drones! Led by Lily Hall, we show how drones can monitor wildlife at management-relevant scales. We used drones & thermal imaging to monitor moose over a huge landscape (12,000 km2). Estimate precision was good (14% CV). doi.org/10.1002/jwmg...

We conducted local drone surveys using thermal imaging to estimate the density of moose across a 12,000-km2 landscape. Resultant density estimates appeared reasonably accurate, had variable precision...

Just wrapped up a project with the New Hampshire Department of Transportation on wildlife-vehicle collision hotspots. We documented some wildlife using culverts to cross roads but not a single deer or moose ever used one - and these species cause the most frequent and severe collisions.

So proud to see my first two PhD students graduate! Drs. Andrew Butler and Taylor Readyhough completed stellar dissertations on topics spanning wildlife management, urban ecology, animal behavior, and species interactions. So good!

How do we know our research results are REAL? We replicate them! Most folks agree but lament on how hard it is to publish these replications. My dearest gentle reader, lament no more! Delighted to unveil: Replication Studies, a new section of Behavioral Ecology 1/ academic.oup.com/beheco/artic...
