so he starts fixing her. as he does, the lion cub rarely appears in the rest of the house, watching over him as he fixes her. of course, it was only a matter of time before his ex finds him. how lucky he is, then, that he’s endeared himself to the beings that claim the house.

against all common sense, phai takes it back to the house to look inside. what he finds is another stuffed animal, a lioness this time. one almost torn in half, stuffing spilling out. phai realizes that the stuffys are a matched set, mother and cub, and can’t just leave her like this.

stuffed lion. phai doesn’t understand how, but he starts finding the stuffy everywhere in the house. he tries to ignore it since he never finds it in his room, but finds himself taking more walks. on one of those walks, phai stumbles over a half-buried fancy wooden box at the edge of the river.

the woods, antique restoration, the like. he also starts exploring the upper floor. the first two rooms are guest rooms, covered in dust and untouched. the third room is completely different. lived in, frozen in time, utterly spotless. no dust. like the owner had just stepped outside for a moment.

to his ex. there’s only a chance of death with the house. so he toughs it out for a week before cyrene calls and he broke down surprisingly, things sort of changed? after the call, enough that he could deal with the ominous noises and creaking floors and he starts doing his hobbies again! walks in
