I will never stop screaming that gerrymandering (and voter suppression tactics, which Texas *loves*) and voter apathy are pretty strongly connected. When you gerrymander and make it hard for ppl to vote, over time you make them believe their vote doesn't matter.

Person 1: "I'll say it again. Texas isn't red, it's rigged."

Person 2, replying: "Gerrymandering is a problem in Texas but nowhere near a big a problem as voter apathy. It's not a red state or a rigged state - it's a non voting state."

I was gonna say, bluegrass has never been a cultural preserve for conservative values, and it still isn't. Loads of old and new music in the genre just eviscerating politicians and societal problems.

Text of image: I like punk because it says there's still something to fight for. I like goth because it says even when things get dark, beauty can exist within it. I like Appalachian bluegrass because it says pick up your banjo and hit a politician with it.

Imo, we have to win the current freaking war, which will likely involve gerrymandering of our own, before we can pursue any sort of Reconstruction, common ground, etc. The race to "move on" from the Civil War in the back end of the 1800s is largely why we're here now, after all.

Reminder in the wake of the Texas floods. More people voted for Harris in Texas (4.8 mil) than voted for her in New York state (4.6 mil). 5.2 mil voted for Biden. Stop writing off Dems in red states like we don't matter or there aren't that many of us. #TurnTexasBlue #fightoligarchy

Text image: Don't make me tap the sign. The South is full of good people that are on your side that are held back by gerrymandering, disenfranchisement, and regressive policies.

This is where I'm at with it. When all the legal minds smarter than me by far are equally going "wtf this is stupid and obviously intended to do something other than actually enforce the law" I am inclined to agree with their take until convincing evidence to the contrary is produced.

🤷‍♀️ We fight until we can't anymore.

🤷‍♀️ I didn't think it was a trick question but again with a whole bunch of people and failing open book tests.

How it started versus how it's going, podcast edition 🙄 Really really really over everyone in the media who told us we were overreacting two months ago and now is willing to acknowledge the raging fire being lit in our govt on fucking purpose.

I feel very similarly. No cat pics (for I am not a cat owner alas) so have a ridiculous dog picture instead.

If you think they won't ask Americans to inform on other "dangerous" populations if they can convince enough of us to tattle on neighbors who may not have legal status, you are lying to yourself in a especially dangerous way.

Spent some time at my local #publiclibrary working this morning after PT and ended up bringing home some light reading 🤭 #booksky #historynerd

In my front yard in Texas since November, specifically because fuck the guy down the street with multiple MAGA/🟠 flags and signs up year round since 2016. I've gotten multiple compliments on it, and I've noticed the number of MAGA flags down the road is gradually decreasing 🤔

Yard sign that says "Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie."

I am incredibly caring and empathetic...but not to those who are hell bent on destroying our system of government, doing harm to the most vulnerable people in our country, and helping those who would harm us. 🤷‍♀️

Screenshot of Twitter post that says "I am not the tolerant left. I am the feral left. Don't get it twisted."

Serbia is a fraction of the size of just the lower 48 (slightly bigger than South Carolina in fact). I live in Texas, which is larger than France. For me to get to my state capital, it's a 3.5 hour drive. For me to get to DC, it's a 22+ hour drive or $700 in plane tickets plus hotel rooms.

The total area of Serbia is 34,170 square miles.

Text excerpt discussing the greatest distances in the contiguous U.S. (2,802 miles coast-to-coast from Florida to Washington state) and its total land area (3,119,884.69 square miles), comparing it to Australia.

As someone who is fully vaccinated but also immunosuppressed while living in a state with a rapidly growing measles outbreak, this doesn't terrify me at all, nope. Everything is fine.

Image text: The last person to die from measles in the US was Catherine Montantes, a fully vaccinated 28-yr-old who contracted measles at a doctors office. She was immunosuppressed due to treatment for dermatomyositis.

Universal masking in healthcare likely would have prevented her death.

I feel like I may be using this mug for my coffee every morning for the next four years...

Coffee mug that reads "It was the fuck aroundest of times, it was the find outest of times."

Every other country on this list has national healthcare, but I'm sure Musk has a plan to "fix" it that will somehow make it worse.

Not gonna lie, I wear being called a heretic with pride these days, because everything I know about my faith and my god says I'm not the one practicing actual heresy and blasphemy.

Seems like we'll have to agree to disagree, as I attempted to engage you at the level you sought (sources and critical discourse) and you've been the one going for insults and personal attacks. I'm off to spend time with my husband and my dogs. I hope you have a lovely day.
