I also have "Inability to Perform Social Activities Is Considered Inferior" by Yasuyuki Uesugi, a short noise composition on floppy disc that's one of a run of 5. This one still feels a bit "basic" though; if you're looking to get into floppy releases, this is the one a Wired article reviewed.

Most of the *super* obscure stuff I have isn't necessarily my favorite music, but I do have some rare ones: Enon's "Long Play" and "Onhold" albums are both self-released on CD-R, and "Onhold" comes in a 5.25" floppy disc case with hand-glued art. I also have some vinyl-only releases from them...

I'm noticing that a lot of macOS system daemons (`nfcd`, `rapportd`, `testmanagerd`, `uarpassetmanagerd`, `wifianalyticsd`, `xprotectd`, etc.) have a similar pattern repeated around the middle and end: this span of random, chaotic noises, followed by quieter static, a loud burst, then silence.

manga of a boy and girl on a date

girl: even in other languages, starfish mostly have star-related names. for instance, in france they're called...

boy: enough about starfish already. i wanna see penguins!

Another one from my high school days is Enon's “Believo.” The album closer, “Biofeedback” continues to be a favorite. It's extremely weird (rapping through a ring modulator, lots of wonky samples, etc.), but also has a great groove.

I have a Python tool I made to glitch up MP3s (see below). I figured out how to package it as a CLI tool that can be installed with e.g., pipx, plus I moved it to Codeberg: codeberg.org/reillypascal... I really like the warbles and click/chirp noises that come out of corrupting the data in an MP3!

I also figured out how to get the “neighborhood” of a given note as a Graphviz graph! I can set how far away from the initial note to look, although there are enough topic index notes that things get dense pretty quickly.
A network graph showing the notes in the immediate neighborhood of “SuperCollider Reference.” Neighbor topics include Csound, ChucK, Tidal Cycles, Musicians & Sound Artists, and SuperCollider Dev, Projects, Notes, and Environments.

I'd been thinking it would be nice to have a decent fidget, and I found this little mechanical keyboard strip that should be very nice. It came with Kailh Arctic Fox clicky switches (which I wanted to try), but I'm also giving it a go with U4Ts — it's easy to switch them out.

Weird macOS keyboard behavior: it *sometimes* inserts a non-breaking space instead of a standard one when I type a space after an em-dash. I noticed because I have Neovim set to mark different kinds of whitespace characters (gray square brackets below) Any ideas why/how to change this?
A narrow terminal window with the following text:

“At least half of the time when I type an em-dash followed by a space — which macOS allows via Alt-Shift-- — I get a non-breaking space, indicated by the bracket character.”

There is a horizontal square bracket character in the space following the em-dashes.

- Lead Pall, “Live From/Banned From Eastside Bond
- Magnetic Coroner, “Spectral Doppelganger”
- Namatamago, “Do Not Freeze”
- Helen Newby, “Dialogue”
- Noxious Upsurge Records, “Senseless”

Finally taking the plunge and learning Lilypond! It's kind of like LaTeX for sheet music. I'd been interested since the Finale debacle, and while Dorico has been nice, I'm finding that in many cases I prefer writing text files to working in a graphical program, so it made sense to give it a go.

Ope, I did that wrong lol. Should have been this: I was wondering why I was getting negative values from the FFT amplitude, and it's because that wasn't the amplitude — I needed to convert from real/imaginary to amplitude/phase
