In 1971, a handful of Queenslanders gathered in a Noosa living room to fight sandmining on the world's largest sand island. Six years later they had stopped the miners and set K'gari on the path to World Heritage listing. Check out number 3 case study in our series here.

In August 1979, hundreds of people walked into a rainforest basin near Lismore and stood in front of the bulldozers. It was Australia's first forest blockade, and within three years it had pushed Premier Neville Wran to halt rainforest logging across New South Wales.
