What silly ideas are grabbing headlines today. Does this sound like a country that will stand for mass deportations, scrapping human rights and abandoning fellow human beings fleeing war and violence?
The image features two photographs. The top left shows a person holding a sign that reads, "Honk if you support Refugees." In the upper right, text says, "There are far more good people who care than those that don't." The bottom photograph shows several people holding signs, including one that reads, "Refugees Welcome." The text overlay states, "Most Brits say they are proud of Britain's history of offering asylum to people fleeing war, persecution or serious danger." The background is black with a collage style.

How have we reached a point where headlines about “anti-migrant activists” are everywhere? When the language of “protest” or “activist” is used it ushers in the belief that people's humanity is up for debate. It’s time to call these activities what they are.
This image collage contrasts two sets pf photos. The top section shows a diverse group of protestors holding signs supporting migrants, with text reading "This is a protest." They are smiling, their signs are colourful and say things like "care, hope and welcome". The text overlaid says "this is a protest". The bottom section shows a crowd at the recent actions in Gosport and Dover where people are marching on the street all dressed in black. The text overlaid says "This is a hate march."

To refugees: you are welcome here. We stand with you. Your safety matters. People wearing masks, marching through our streets and stoking fear, are unacceptable. It’s more than “thuggery”. It’s racism, walking boldly through our communities. And it's emboldened by political rhetoric.
The image features a black and white background with people holding signs. Overlaid text reads, "DON'T MAKE RACISM MORE WELCOME THAN REFUGEES."

This image features a graphic for the BBC Radio 4 Appeal for Refugee Action. It shows a green audio wave design and states, "So far, our BBC Radio 4 Appeal had raised £33,212.92 for our vital work!" 75 years ago, countries promised to protect people fleeing persecution. Today, the government's Immigration and Asylum Bill risks weakening that promise by making protection more temporary and refugees' futures more uncertain. The Refugee Convention still matters. We must uphold it.

The housing emergency has created an expensive, poor quality and divisive asylum accommodation system. So 51 organisations have written to Andy Burnham to tell him he already has the answers to housing all people in need. Our letter is on his desk. bit.ly/4fRRMHw
Image of Andy Burnham in a a suit standing next to large text addressing him. The text says:
Dear Andy Burnham,
You say Britain needs more social housing.
You say communities need more local power.
You say public services should be for the public, not profits.
We say, don't discriminate and apply these principles to all people, including people seeking safety.
51 organisations have written to you.
The letter is on your desk.

It's one of the most common questions about asylum. Refugees don't just need safety. They need family, community and the chance to rebuild their lives. International law doesn't require people to seek asylum in the first safe country they reach. History shapes journeys.
This image features bold white text on a black background: "Why don't refugees stay in the first safe country?" There's a textured question mark. Below, a hand is pointing upward against a background of clouds.Black background with two sections labeled "False" and "True." Under "False," a red X and the text: "Refugees must claim asylum in the first safe country they reach." Under "True," a green checkmark and text: "There is no rule in international law that says this. In fact, there are many reasons why the first safe country isn't suitable."A text graphic with a black background. It reads: "AND HERE'S THE HISTORY LESSON. For centuries, Britain was connected to countries across Africa, Asia and the Middle East/West Asia through empire. These connections shaped languages, migration patterns and family networks that still exist today. The image features a poster with the text: "People seeking safety aren't choosing countries at random. They're often following family, community and historical connections that were built over generations." Below the text is a black and white photograph of the ship "Empire Windrush" with many people on deck. A green arrow symbol is at the bottom right corner.

Can you imagine fleeing war and persecution, only to have violent mobs attempt to storm the place you live? When politicians scapegoat migrants and refugees, it doesn't just stay in Westminster. This is the result.
The image features a bold message stating, "Everyone should feel safe in their homes. Refugees are no exception." Below, there are two news headlines: one from The Times about asylum seekers taken to safety during Thetford protests, and one from the Daily Mirror about police escorting residents to safety during anti-immigration protests in Thetford. The word "safe" is highlighted in green, and "no exception" is highlighted in orange.

Andy Burnham has promised to "put the care of people at the heart of everything". It's time to prove it. No one risks a dangerous journey unless the alternative is worse. Ahmed sought safety in the UK. More than a year later, he's still waiting in an asylum hotel.
A postcard design with text: "I went through this dangerous journey just to have a better life for my kids, just to live a safe life." Below is a small photo of a serene beach. A caption reads: "A postcard from Ahmed, who arrived in the UK via a Channel crossing and has spent more than a year in an asylum hotel." The background has a light blue striped pattern.

"I feel no different from someone in an open prison." Chuma describes life in the UK's asylum system, where people are often banned from working while they wait for a decision, living in inhumane conditions.

In the final days of Keir Starmer’s leadership, his government is trying to force through yet another cruel and divisive asylum law. It won't stop Channel crossings or fix the broken asylum system. The new Prime Minister must scrap this bill as a first port of call.
White text on a black background stating: "Another PM leaving No. 10. Another immigration bill. Another political stunt." Below are three news article thumbnails. The first, from The Guardian, with the headline: "Asylum seekers to pay £10,000 towards living costs under new UK law.", and a photo of the home sec Shabana Mahmood. The second, from The Sunday Guardian, with the headline: "UK's New Immigration Bill: What is the New Asylum Rule?" The third from the BBC, with the headline "Refugees told to repay around £10,000 under new asylum rules."

Pride is about the right to live openly and safely. Many LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum are often expected to provide evidence of their identity when claiming asylum. The very evidence they're asked for may be evidence they could never safely create. We stand with LGBTQ+ people seeking safety.🌈
The image features bold white text on a black background with a rainbow header displaying "LGBTQ+". The main text reads, "Asylum seekers are often asked to prove who they are." Below, smaller text says, "But what if hiding who you are is how you survived?" A small green arrow is at the bottom right.Text on a black background reads: "In more than 70 countries, LGBTQ+ identities are criminalised. For some, being open about who they are could lead to violence, imprisonment, or worse." A small green arrow is in the bottom right corner. The image has text on a black background. The main text reads: "That's why proving sexual orientation or gender identity can be so difficult." Below, smaller text reads: "The evidence people are asked for may be the very evidence they could never safely create." There's a small green arrow in the bottom right corner.Everyone deserves safety. Everyone deserves dignity. Everyone deserves the right to be themselves. People seeking safety need homes, not military camps. Replacing hotels with barracks doesn't fix the asylum system. It simply swaps one unsuitable accommodation for another. We need homes where people can rebuild their lives, not more segregation. Read our solution here: bit.ly/4vvdhmG

Governments come and go. But blaming refugees has never fixed the UK's broken asylum system. The next Prime Minister must choose a different path: safe routes, the right to work, decent housing, and an end to the dehumanising rhetoric that fuels division. People seeking safety deserve better.

No tragedy should be exploited to justify racist violence. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and neighbourhood. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by Monday's horrific stabbing, and with the migrant, refugee and minoritised communities targeted by the subsequent violence in Belfast.
The statement reads: The horrific stabbing in Belfast on Monday is being used as an excuse for racist violence. Migrants, refugees, people of colour and their neighbours were terrorised in their homes and communities last night. Homes were burned down. Leadership must step up now and defend the right to a safe home that we all need.

Many politicians and media outlets have learned nothing from the last two summers of violence. They shouldn’t be surprised that it is happening again. Calling such attacks "protests" legitimises those responsible and obscures the harm being done to entire communities.

This must stop now. We urgently need political and moral leadership that stands up for people seeking safety - and all migrant and minoritised communities – by rejecting the far-right politics of hate that exploits tragedies to demonise and attack communities.

The policies that are made in the grand building of parliament impact real people all around the country. Yanick, Rene, Anusha and Bsmah have all experienced the asylum system first hand. They are members of our community. They campaign for justice. And we share their outrage.

Our statement on the government’s abhorrent plans for people seeking safety. Politicians are dividing communities, when they could be building affordable homes and strengthening them.
Politicians are tearing Britain apart. Instead of fixing our NHS, making housing affordable and reducing wealth inequality they are rolling out the red carpet for the far right.
This racist package of hostility against people seeking safety will further divide our communities and create a two-tier society divided into people who are told they belong, and those who are told they don’t.
Survivors of war, persecution and torture can’t properly rebuild their lives and feel settled in our communities with the constant threat of deportation looming over them.
Deterrence policies like these may be a great distraction for a government worried about next week’s budget and wracked by political infighting, but they won’t stop Channel crossings nor build inclusive, thriving communities.
