In short, human brains are actually two organs closely linked, a forebrain (also containing the midbrain) and hindbrain. The first is where our consciousness is. The latter is where automatic functions like breathing and heart rate control is.

The hindbrain, located at the base of the skull, acts as the body's automatic control centre, governing survival functions like heart rate, breathing, and sleep cycles.

The midbrain and forebrain handle high-level thinking, including language, logic, and abstract reasoning.

Despite their separate origins, the two systems integrate seamlessly to carry out daily tasks.

I think I'm getting this bad. I can relate to a few of these.

6 signs of high-functioning ADHD:
* You're the reliable one... but it takes constant mental effort to stay that way.
* You over-prepare (lists, reminders, notes) so you don't get caught forgetting.
* You can perform under pressure... but you fall apart after (crash, numb, doomscroll).
* Your life runs on sprints: amazing output ➡️ disappear to recover.
* You look "organized" because you micromanage your environment (systems everywhere)... not because it's easy.
* You do "fine" in public... then go home and feel weirdly guilty/exhausted like you were acting all day.

How to tell if it's getting bad again:

- sleeping too much or not at all
- eating too much or too little
- sounding disinterested in everything
- being spaced out a lot
- rambling a lot or not talking at all
- losing track of time
- making cynical comments, usually about yourself
- pushing people away
- tend to rubbing your eyes and head a lot
- always being shaky
- avoiding certain conversations
