Fantastic preprint showing how circulating EBV-specific CD8+ T cells in MS adopt a GZMK+ effector–memory state that is primed to migrate to the CNS & may drive neuroinflammation through non-cytolytic interactions with B cells & myeloid cells. 🧵👇 1/

What the ‘negative space’ tells us about the immunology of multiple sclerosis - Nature Reviews Immunology
By exploring five enduring “negative spaces” in multiple sclerosis (MS) research, Kaufmann, Gold and Fugger challenge simple explanations of disease pathogenesis. Their Comment argues that MS emerges ...

Interesting study showing MS pre-relapse marked by shifts in peripheral innate immune cell states, linked to lytic EBV in ABCs. This contrasts with the pathology of smouldering CNS inflammation, highlighting a split pathogenic mechanism possibly unified by anti-EBV immunity? 🦠🧠

🧩 B cell depletion is highly effective in multiple sclerosis. But why? In our new @brain1878.bsky.social paper, we used ocrelizumab as a perturbation, uncovering a B cell-dependent T cell state linking peripheral immune activation to chronic CNS inflammation. doi.org/10.1093/brain/awag303 🧵👇 1/
