Is that true? It would be hilarious hearing about the battery of tests he would’ve run the prostitutes through

“This” = attacking Iran? Or are you referring to the stance he’s taken on oil?

I get that they feel the need to shovel money into capex and now desperately need some offsetting revenue source but even as a pure business decision this seems wrong to me, for the same reason shoving ads into Microsoft Word is wrong. are you building a Serious Work Product or not?

“There aren’t as many class riots as there used to be“ doesn’t mean there isn’t societal tension. There’s plenty of qual. data to support the idea and fundamental issues like certain classes being able to comfortably start a family (house, nanny, vacations) vs. those that can’t (debt, no property).

Hey Conor, can you share where this chart is from? I’m interested to unpack the definitions of “Rich,” “Upper Middle Class,” etc. Your analysis is very interesting and I’m inclined to agree with it.

I lived off Chipotle 3 pointers in my 20s: $4.95 for chicken and rice. That same meal is almost $8 now!

Love that quote and feel it is uncommon for leaders to be that prescient, in my experience. I remember asking the CDO of a Fortune 15 company what his 3 year vision was (I worked in his org) and he replied he seldom planned further than a year out! He’s still an exec at a Fortune 50 company.

I recently spoke to a 26 y.o. who said, “Why would anyone keep cash? It’s dumb—the market always gives you a 10% return!” She and her friends have never experienced a stock market crash, and she got very flustered when I explained dot com, 08, etc. to her. Surreal to see (I’m in my 30s)

Not saying an implosion won’t happen, just that with all the increased costs of AI (data centers, electricity…), I‘m flummoxed it isn’t happening yet

I wonder what would trigger an AI implosion when research already finds “AI chatbots have had no significant impact on earnings or recorded hours in any occupation…”? Also wondering if it would coincide with businesses acknowledging AI wont replace jobs en masse www.nber.org/papers/w33777

To be fair, it’s been a long six years with more twists and turns along the way than anyone could’ve forecast. If Caitlin Clark hadn’t come along, the fanbase may largely still be dormant today.

Loved Slow Horses’s first few seasons, but it feels like it jumped the shark a bit the last two seasons. (I also hesitate to call these short bursts of episodes “seasons”)

Don’t forget Manhunt and Presumed Innocent! I have no idea how Apple expects people to find these shows. I stumble across them by happenstance on X or IMDb. They need to make content discovery more serendipitous, or at least put an “exclusives” section in the app.

I was young in my grade, and remember feeling less pressure during tests and athletics since my classmates were older than me. I did great in both, and wonder if putting less pressure on myself impacted my performance more than being 6+ months older would’ve.

On a semi-related note, I can’t wrap my head around how NC, SC, TN, AL, etc. don't have a pro baseball team.

Some consumption has become so extreme that the shift to services may be welcome. The Amazon/Home Depot decorations overwhelming front lawns at every conceivable holiday may be my biggest peeve of modern consumption — and none of it makes us as happy as being with people (i.e. good for services)!

Completely agree. There is room for excessive consumption to scale back. Eg high schoolers today have a Lululemon wardrobe and multiple pairs of sneakers vs. 20 years ago pre-GFC at the same schools the wardrobe was Kohl’s/Marshall’s with Abercrombie/Marshall’s interspersed and 1-2 pair of shoes.

AOC would get wrecked worse than Harris because she would win zero swing votes or moderates. I know n=1, but I know some moderate Dems who dislike AOC so much that they’d rather do a write-in than vote for her.

Not to mention her campaign had some marked departures from her past positions, confusing voters as to what she actually supported. She did okay considering her short runway to plan and execute her campaign. The deck was stacked against her with the unusual way she was selected as candidate.

Ehh Nate also said Harris and Trump was going to be a coin toss, with Harris at 50.015% and Trump at 49.985%, and Trump won pretty comfortably.

Too many homes go overboard with kitsch holiday decorations, so maybe the tariffs will improve suburban aesthetics.

Crazy seeing how fickle his base is becoming - a visit to r/conservative over the weekend was eye-opening. Thread after thread saying he looked weak by omitting electronics, and was screwing small biz owners but helping AAPL/NVDA. Trump will absolutely lose his base if tariffs fail hard.

I’d trust a WaPo poll on Trump as much as a Fox News poll on Obama. Very, very few Trump voters are wondering why he “doesn’t just sit there and do nothing” - they love what they see if you get off the Reddit-Bksy echo chambers and talk to them.

Not sure what part of Atlanta you live in, but everywhere around town was insane. Rifles at the Buckhead bars, Phipps and Lenox looted, the National Guard deployed to keep order, tent cities all over (even across the Buckhead Shops at the old Cheesecake Factory), murders next to Peachtree Battle…
