I think a smart way would be not to cut corners, but to be willing to re-use some assets from older games instead spending time modeling new ones. Horses, buildings, landscapes, etc. Yakuza puts out quality games fast because the whole city gets reused very often.

It’s funny you mention him as a traumatized shaking dog… because in my WoL story, Jack’s bullpup is one she rescued from The Praetorium… and during the escape aboard the Magitek Armor the first thing the pup did when he saw Thancred unconscious was growl and chew his hair. He talked about how it was his first time in Canada and he took a few days to enjoy it - or as he said, “Waters at the waters” when he talked about visiting Niagara Falls. Also that he loved portraying Thancred’s arc in Shadowbringers because “he goes on a journey from Sadcred to Dadcred.”
