This, along with Hunter Schafer speaking out about how receiving a passport with the wrong gender marker does not erase who she is, calls to Hunter’s performance of an Eileen Myles poem on Transa: “left a message in the sand / it’s true / you picked it right up” redhot.bandcamp.com/track/iii-co...

A dream where a passport -- a self -- is something that you make not something given to you by anyone. In a letter to his gallerist in 1992, Gonzalez-Torres wrote that the blank paper represents an "untouched feeling" -- something no state can take away.

Red Hot presents TRAИƧA @redhotorg.bsky.social · 06/03/2025

The artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres imagined identity as open possibility in "Untitled (Passport).” He invited people to simply take a blank piece of paper from a stack and inscribe it with THEIR selves and THEIR places. (images from the FGT Foundation)

intervention strategies start with imagination 🧵 ~~ what is a passport without the state? it’s a booklet of paper

Listen to TRANSA. This labour of love is an epic journey best experienced together. As much as I appreciated the singles published before release day those songs feel more natural in sequence. There's so much history and affirming artistry here without a note of artifice. Thank you, Red Hot.

If you go to the Smithsonian American Art Museum right now you can see an openly-queer tribute to James Baldwin, an installation about the erasure of lesbians and trans people from Stonewall, and a full exhibit about American women between the wars who fled to Paris to be gay and make art.

Woman And Nature by Susan Griffin (1978) poetically traces how the Rapture in Scripture morphed with canon texts in science written by misogynists to become this land-destroying secular version of end times. The book is nurturing and crucial! Free PDF! excoradfeminisms.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...

I appreciate all the people recommending the Shock Doctrine. I've been thinking about what makes Trump's use of these tactics a little different. In recent decades, shock tactics were used mainly to rapidly impose neoliberal economic policies. But what Trump is doing goes way beyond that. a 🧵

the idea that denying desire is just as harmful as denying responsibility -- AND that those two denials are linked! -- is exciting to me in this moment. it's what Red Hot's been up to for 35 years, making the revolution (responsibility) irresistible (desire)

lyndsay here! after revisiting No Alternative Girls I've been thinking about the impulse -- often subconscious -- that causes young adults who grew up in /abstinence-only/ churches to have sex without condoms or bc even if they know better (condoms/pills = planning = premeditated sin = shame)
