We have to remember that before Trump it was the Republicans that were anti-tariff and pro free trade. The Democrats were always more protectionist. Plus, the revenue tariffs are bringing into federal coffees will mean no politician will get rid of them any time soon.

Great read. I also believe that a huge challenge for the federal government is the affordability crisis. Eventually the threat of Trump will dissipate and then the public's attention will return to the high cost of groceries, rent, housing, fuel, etc. They had better be prepared for that.

Latest polls I have seen show the NDP up 9 points and 338 suggests that if an election were held today they predict the NDP getting 16 seats. So that is an improvement. That being said the NDP have to realistically aim for the election after the next one. They need an 8 year plan.

There is little chance he would win anywhere yet. He is trying to become more known across the country. That folks who follow politics know him is expected but the average Canadian doesn't. He needs time to develop a narrative that will resonate. If people like what he is selling then he will run.

That is the crux of the matter. While this govt may not abuse this new power there is no guarantee a future govt won't. I recall complaining of Obama's use of Executive Orders to get things done because of the precedent it set. We see with Trump how it can be abused. It's a slippery slope.

I was very enthusiastic about PM Carney and while realizing because of external pressure some things would have to be done that I didn't quite like I can honestly say I am shocked by the anti-environment, anti-climate change, development at all costs style of governance. I am enthusiastic no more.

Florida doesn't have a goalie signed yet. Bobrovsky is on the downward slope of his career. They were horrible defensively last year and Brady doesn't address that at all nor helping with their discipline issues. Long term Ottawa might be happy with his move.

Canadian teams are ~22% of the teams in the NHL. Since '93 Canadian teams have reached the final ~22% of the time. Out of the 7 cup finals in the last 32 years involving Canadian teams 4 have gone to game 7. So we get there but fall just short.

Kapanen should have got it deep. That was the mistake. The counter attack was quick and it was a great shot by Ehlers off of his wrong foot which might have thrown Dobes off a bit. Habs never came out flying which surprised me. Got the split so that's good.
