Suddenly had an idea for a painting only for it not to work but I did think of this Blackpool view took a few attempts to find the right view. But it might work with a little work.

In January I worked myself to exhaustion posting 27 reels and countless normal posts only to have been beaten by December where I got more views and interactions across 4 reels and fewer posts. And it’s not about the numbers, it’s the burnout I’ll hit if I keep trying to push at that rate
Reel and post views last month, which show I got thousands more views in December than January

Finished the first draft of all the entries for my book on Coastwatch stations. As I’ve gone through I’ve identified a few stations that have new buildings which will need repainting. I should start the 2nd draft later in the week.

Yesterday I managed 10 entries for the book. This morning 9 entries. This afternoon 15. My back aches but we are over halfway done with the first draft. Could do with finding someone to read it at some point.

Last month I tried to crowdfund my book of paintings, it failed , so i spent January mulling over it and decided to expand it, write more. Yesterday I laid out a new format, today I started writing and researching the information simultaneously. I think it’s going to take at least 6 days.

Can’t log into Instagram or Facebook until I agree to the new ads terms. Honestly I don’t want to use social media any more, don’t want to make videos. I have been considering going back into working in education just so I don’t have to think about social media and videos anymore.

This is what my final degree show looked like in 2010, well not the main show itself, this was the shop in a side room. So if someone liked the work in the main show, "well, this one isn't for sale, but if you step this way", and yes, I did sell some work that way.

Whilst looking for things to make a video, I found this time-lapse of me drawing the Blackpool Pleasure Beach Casino building, and I thought it would be a good tie-in to my new 3D painting “Rollercoaster Adventure”

As it is the New Year, I thought I would reintroduce myself. I'm Joseph, my life goal used to be to run a pottery where I made functional pottery that people would buy and use. There are a few things that made me give up on that goal, one was seeing vast amounts of waste in a design environment.

Its a New Year and I've been out for a blustery walk. Image from 2,470 days ago, when they were still building the new sports centre at Rossall School.

Trying to work out what local scene to paint, the one with the largest familiarity outside of locally is that one at the bottom, being Cleveleys Promenade which appeared in Andor as Niamos. But don't know how to make more layers to it as I'm trying to make a 3D painting

Last year, I made a 3D painting for the Grundy Open; the painting is Stanley Park in Blackpool Oddly, the fountain marks an improvement point in my head, as in 2012 I spent a lot of time drawing before I did teacher training, I have images of the fountain 4 months apart & there is improvement.

When a Facebook memory comes up telling you that this image is 6 years old, and it was one of the last images my Grandma saw before she died. She was the person who encouraged me to learn to paint with watercolours, as she painted oils and then moved to watercolours.

Things feel a bit stalled, so here are some of the images from the book. I would appreciate any support, even if it is £1, but for £10 you can get a PDF and for £25 a perfect-bound book, and for £35 a hardback book, which includes delivery in the UK. Unfortunately, delivery elsewhere is added

Last week I found a book of 56 paintings I made for a pitch. It’s from 2021/22, made mainly on the sofa when my back wouldn’t stop hurting. But I think I want to look at selling it, and making a limited hardcover version through Kickstarter.

Been working on renovating my new study/painting studio Hoping to start using the studio in two weeks time, still need to finish laying the floor, then sanding and putting a finish on. Then fill the room with furniture and get to work.

Trying to work out my next move. Feels like a flip-up between: -Learning to draw people, animals and vehicles -Focusing my practice on research (somehow) -moving back to ceramics One I think I would be good at, one is what I should probably do and the other feels impossible.

Autistic Burnout from 5 years ago still affects me today, I have all the resilience of a not very resilient thing. Honestly people send me messages and I can’t reply I just get stuck in a spiral. I want some sort of financial stability but instead I fall apart constantly.

Before it got warm this morning I sat out in the yard sketching. A year ago someone I admire criticised the quick impulsiveness of my drawings and I struggled since with drawing around others and I haven’t been sketching as much as I should. When I’ve gone out I haven’t really sketched this year.

I am stuck in my business, & someone I was talking to suggested I speak to a mentor I have had mentors in the past who have unfortunately passed away (one spurned the creation of the seaside saggar range) The thing is, I don't think a mentor will answer the questions; I have to do that, & I can't

And I don't feel nostalgic about it, nothing makes me feel nostalgic, which might feel weird to anyone that looks on and sees that I make art that tries to connect to the history of places. It is more about using the past to teach people about a place.

I had a quick look through the real archive. It's an early 2000s 1kg Celebrations tin filled with photographs taken in film, everything from classwork to weddings & when I was dating my other half to a 2003 H2G2 mini meet in York where we went to the York Dungeons. All while I was young and hopeful

I've been working for myself for 15 years on and off for the last 15 years. Working for myself just generates more questions, and there are always fewer answers than there are questions. And no one else has the answers I need, I have to find them myself, it feels hard, because it defines direction

Several bags of rubbish and empty boxs gone from my space and I am regretting ever producing so many digital prints of my work, there are a lot and I wish that I could just not have so many in my possesion. But I feel the same about the small stack of frames and the shelves of canvas.

How a photograph can make you feel dispondant: I took both these photos this morning of the exact same piece, first with my phone that produced a washed-out image and made me feel like I wasn't doing a good job. The other is with my DSLR, which is more true to life. The colours are so much better.
