Nothing will top a recent comment I saw in relation to a local housing development: "We don't need more houses, we just need the ones already here to cost less"

The most surprising thing about this theory is that there are still people who believe Keir Starmer was playing 5D chess all along, rather than simply being Bad at Politics

My favourite low-key Cassidy spot is when he argues with the ref after his opponent kicks out at one. "That was two!"

Well, it's not *quite* what we asked for, but should be an improvement. Hopefully the ECB can start taking a more robust line now that participation will no longer be voluntary...

Similar to the Oxford theory of Shakespeare authorship, which holds that someone of Shakespeare's background must have been too stupid to write all those plays, so a nobleman did it instead

I believe Andy when he says he wants to lead a united Labour Party and put an end to factionalism. But, it is also fair to ask the people responsible for the worst of the recent factional wars to take a back seat for now.

Vanity by-elections are not unheard of. Zac Goldsmith did it over Heathrow expansion. Further back, David Davis also did so over civil liberties (and, like in this case, the other major parties declined to stand candidates).

You are probably right that the UK's economic problems will take more than one parliamentary term to fix, but any government seriously wanting to fix them surely ought to have started by now.

Having just spent a weekend at Oulton Park, where no racing is permitted until 12.30pm in case it upsets the churchgoers of West Cheshire, I fully endorse the Mayor's point.

The "wild haggis" is presented to tourists as a harmless joke, to conceal Scotland's deep shame that the last haggi were hunted to extinction in the 18th century.

Just one example. As someone who (for work) frequently responds to government consultations, it is beyond infuriating that the government is now routinely using AI to analyse responses. We already knew you didn't read everything we sent you, but at least you used to pretend to!

Consumer Credit Act reformed to protect consumers and support modern finance
The government will modernise the Consumer Credit Act for the first time in over 50 years, giving consumers clearer information and firms the flexibility to innovate.

Hey @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social. Your current slogan "Labour MP for Ilford North and Secretary of State for Health and Social Care" will no longer do. I suggest replacing it with "Look out. Here comes the McShitter".

Part of me wonders if Wes blinks, even at this late stage. The Rayner news changes the calculation yet again, and further narrows his path to No 10. At some point even he must ask if it's worth blowing up the party for this.
