I think the human animal is wired to seek a "strong" leader, to fear the Other, and to be narrowly focused on immediate needs--which includes the need to feel membership. Fascism is the natural order. It's the default for a lot of people and is always there in any society.

This is from the committee press release. As if it wasn't always both. Exploitation and oppression of the Other for the comfort of whiteness. As if those 'inclusive systems' are not built on, and still building, mountains of corpses.

When Europeans colonised large parts of the globe, the institutions in those societies changed. This was sometimes dramatic, but did not occur in the same way everywhere. In some places the aim was to exploit the indigenous population and extract resources for the colonisers' benefit. In others, the colonisers formed inclusive political and economic systems for the long-term benefit of European migrants.

Update: the original wild basil patch got strimmed but this little bit I relocated is doing so well 😁 even the sad yellow one isn't dead it's just not doing well.

I hope everything goes ok 🤞🏻 We only got Port to tolerate Jadzia sitting on the same cushion as her like a month ago and now they're doing it all the time.

Beautiful 😍 I've been collecting and drying petals for tea I have a whole jar now (mostly rosa rugosa)

A medium sized kilner jar filled with magenta and yellow dried rose petals. There is also some kitchen towel in the jar to absorb any remaining moisture.

The letter is great but this paragraph from the article is infuriatingly wrong and terrible on multiple levels.

Fossil-fuelled industrialisation was the great enabler of democracy in the UK, so it should be of no surprise if the two main rivals in this election were slow to grasp either the severity of the problem or the public desire for action.

Look at how good these girls are 😍 Port on the bottom left is our older cat (~16) who is a bit grumpy with the younger girls sometimes (Jadzia top left, Akira right, ~2) so it's really nice to see them chilling like this.
