I need a break from reality, so here is an interesting mushroom that I found on my way back from the farmers market today.

My latest bake is a sourdough loaf with lemon zest, Herbs de Provence, and covered in sesame seeds. I had trouble with the dough but it baked up beautifully.

This is what happens when you drop your heavy Dutch oven top on your bread TWICE while removing it during baking. Usually, I take the whole thing out of the oven to remove the top after steam baking, but I was lazy today.

I made failure sourdough bagels for the 1st time in 4 years of making bagels- they actually deflated when boiled them. I used a new flour & pushed bulk proofing too far. My darling husband looked at them & said "well, at least they will fit in the toaster better." They actually taste fine.
Half of a very thin everything bagel that should be much plumper.

I made my husband a soft, sourdough sandwich loaf for his colonoscopy prep. OMG, plain white sourdough bread is soooooo boring in taste.

This year's hoard of ants in the kitchen ignored the usual lids of sugar, water, & boric acid until I figured out that they couldn't/wouldn't climb up the sides of the lids. So, I made them little ramps to the top and left a soaked cotton ball beside them. Seems silly but it worked.
A clear, plastic lid full of sugar, water, and boric acid with tiny ramps for easy access to kill the hundreds of ants invading the kitchen. Cotton ball with same mixture beside the lid.

I am celebrating our neighbor's glorious apple tree in back of us on Earth Day because it will soon be killed so that a greedy developer can put up yet another massive, luxury, high-rise apartment building for the rich, who don't want to live on a 6-lane highway in Gowanus.

I was pleased to see the work of Samuel Thomas, Iroquois bead artist, displayed at the Brooklyn Museum today. I was privileged to take 3 classes with him and his mother at the NMAI in New York City. He left this world too soon.

Did someone say snow? The wind is blowing some snow off the trees, but it is still impressive. That dark circle is our heated birdbath.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. With a lot fewer people visiting NYC this year, I was able to easily walk up the central plaza to get a photo. Usually this whole area area is insanely packed with people on Christmas eve.
