The 9 Games That Shaped Who I Am (chronological): I normally roll my eyes at trends but I jokingly told myself I would do it if they had gToons... they had gToons. Ended up being a fun reflection/journaling experience. Used alt text of image to briefly talk through each of them (if interested).

My 9 Formative Games (in the order that I played them):

1) Super Mario World - First game I truly loved and would play again and again as a child.

2) Super Mario 64 - First game that I was truly in awe and wonder. Spent 100s of hours hopping around exploring inside and outside of Peach's Castle.

3) GToons (I can't believe this existed as an option) - My first online competitive game. Browser based trading card game on Cartoon Network's website. I played this on dial-up internet.

4) Warcraft III (The Frozen Throne expansion specifically) - Never played the actual game, but the custom maps was my generation's Roblox (without the monetization). Favorite maps were DBZ Tribute, Run Kitty Run, and Tower Defense variants.

5) Halo 2 - This was THE game. The start of the ranked grind. The super bounces and all of the game's glitches made it a beautiful mess. There was something for every mood in this game. Hardcore competition, socializing, exploring around all of the maps, fun casual modes. My experiences were mainly talking with IRL friends at school but dabbled into making friends over the internet.

6) Halo 3 - The first game I traveled to compete in, the first game that I streamed, this WAS my life at the time. This was when making friends on the internet through games started to become the norm. Map maker, theater mode, so many bells and whistles and creative ways to play. Revolutionary. So many friends, late nights, and long convos in party chat that completely changed my life.

7) Hearthstone - First game I really "studied". Community was so nice, thoughtful, and helpful. Math + RNG is powerful.

8) Splatoon 3 - Not much more to say that someone reading this doesn't already know. This game rules and am optimistic for the franchise/community's future.

9) Street Fighter 6 - Started this year. The first fighting game that made me "get" the genre. It has completely transformed how I think about improvement, myself, the world. Fighting games are seriously amazing!

Chipping away at Raiders, cleared F800. Developing a gameplan for the floor layouts have been legitimately fun and rewarding. Executing the gameplan still feels satisfying. Unfortunately the level balance feels off. Some layouts feel impossible while others are consistent clears with 25s left.

Some (more) late game Raiders thoughts having some time this weekend to clear F600: - Almost 1mil Crystals. Locked by Gems - ~70% upgraded 2nd build - Air combat OP, enemies poorly designed for air combat - Love the puzzle-like aspect of herding enemies to chain power egg combos - Buffet (cont.)

Anyone that is grinding Raiders for the longer term, make sure to "Go Help" daily for the Help bonus (you get one bonus/24 hours). I've been consistently getting 2x Spirhalite Gems, which bottleneck your unlocks in the late game. You will thank yourself later!

As the community approaches max builds in Raiders, I wonder if we will eventually hit a wall on progress within the Bottomless Buffet (assuming it doesn't end). Would be really cool if F999, F1200, F1500,.... clears were a race and something we anticipate and could celebrate as a collective.

Raiders is slowing down on upgrades and game is definitely ramping up in difficulty which is good! I'm having to optimize and get creative with my playstyle which is exactly what I wanted out of this game. Interested to better understand how the mechanics function and see what we can squeeze out.

Finally got 100% relics, that's enough raiding for a while. Excited to hear other's opinions and peep builds. Especially interested in feedback/experience from the seasoned Salmon Run gamers. I do think this game has the most mass appeal of any Splatoon game. I wonder if it gains any traction.

Nearing 100% relics (no spoilers) - Leaderboards and/or monthly/seasonal challenges are sorely missed. Solo/Quad categories would be incredibly fun to grind and improve on. - Solo/Survival difficulty has been trivial (outside of one small bump later on). Might be difficult when # stops going up?

All of the Raiders gameplay has led me to 2 conclusions: - Salmon Run in Splat 4 is going to absolutely bang - I see the vision for actual CASUAL game modes for regular pvp. Something that's been greatly missing from the series so far. I really hope they decide to go all out with Splat 4.

Had to check out Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games since they promoted it within SF6. Really amazing first episode, I was impressed at the level of detail they included for fighting game fans. Not used to media portraying competitive gaming with care. Pretty hype for the rest of the season!

As a strict rule follower, everything about the red card situation felt gross. Watching that game felt gross. Seeing the US players deflated from the start of the match was heartbreaking. Not giving Wright or Pepi a chance to step up and be a hero was heartbreaking. oof.

Maybe we ditch one of the 5 game modes for Splatoon's own version of Penalty Kicks. One-by-one players have 10 seconds to score a power clam without getting sniped by the enemy eliter.

Unpopular opinion but I think so many specials in splatoon 3 just feel really unpolished regardless of their balance state Whether it be clunky animations or unnecessary endlag frames, Cooler missing UI on mini map still. Some of them are minor nitpicks but really add up overall with fluidity

Yet another reason why broadening to a more casual audience is VITAL to competitive community health. Most recent $1mil Capcom Cup champion was a retired Fortnite/Valo streamer. So many sponsored SF6 pro players that are variety streamers or retired competitive players from other genres.

Outside community: 1) Known metric when reaching the average Splatoon player. Instead of people wondering "wtf is a div?" 2) Untapped YT content on how to hit... X-rank, 1.6-2k XP, 2k-2.5k XP, 2.5k-3k XP, 3k+ XP. Great way to introduce/elaborate on concepts for viewers. These PERFORM on JP SF6 YT.

I look at this differently (though I agree with their points). The bigger issue is keeping casual players motivated to play the game. Their own desire to continue to play the game. Most comp splat content is focused on the SCENE rather than the GAME. It (accidentally) alienates a new audience.
