Tbh, the California Raisins commercial where they were singing "Heard it Through the Grapevine". I was like 6. 🤣 No idea why it was so scary to me, but I couldn't listen to the song for the longest time as well.

In all of this terrible economic.... everything, I love that the oldest kiddo can come over and go "grocery shopping" to get some of what she needs. I can help her in small ways. 🥰

🌱 I started a bunch of seeds inside and finally transplanted them all outside to their permanent homes. I was looking this morning and I think a broccoli seedling snuck in with the parsley. 🤣 #gardening #NTexas

I do not appreciate it when my work-brain finally kicks on at 4pm on a Friday. Come on, brain, where were you on Monday?!

It's Homecoming week, my kiddo is marching in her first parade for band, and it's 101* outside. 😭 With no shade along the route, or for attendees.

One of the things I greatly appreciate seeing right now is the videos and pictures of gardens in Texas from experienced gardeners, reminding me that we are all in survival mode right now! Not much flourishes in constant 100+*F temps, so I don't feel like a failure seeing everyone else's! 🤣🌱 #NTexas

I've taken a break from fantastic talks at #BCCE2026 to do some work on the Terrace at UW Madison, and I'm just moving from table to table to follow the shade. 🤣

My kids' world apparently got rocked recently when their dad came home with a birthday cake, just 'cause. They were like, wait, you can just... buy a cake? Whenever you want to? No reason? 🤷‍♀️ 🤣

Summer garden is well underway, started parts of the fall garden already, and now already thinking about winter/spring. I need to figure out a better rotation for needs. Re: I need late fall/winter/early spring beds to be the ones closest to the house so I don't have to go out as far when it's cold.

🌱 I understand why there's so much #gardening content on socials now. I'm not planning on adding to the noise, but it's tempting, just to show people what I've done, teach them what I've learned, and get my thoughts out of my head when my people IRL are probably tired of hearing about it! 🤣 #NTexas

🌱 I saw a Q on socials the other day: what would you change about your garden, if you were able to do it all again? I would add infrastructure. Water lines, irrigation systems, solid (movable) trellises, and posts to add shade cloth. I'm working on it. V, v slowly. 😕 #gardening #NTexas

I can now make chicken fried steak, and it's pretty good. 😁 I'm now trying to learn to fry chicken (starting easy with boneless breasts) and I'm right back where I started when I was learning to make chicken fried steak. 😕 I need a Southern grandma to come hold my hand and show me how to do this.

I'm not cooking anything special for the holiday weekend, but I love the last sentence. I just told my husband that we are surprisingly well stocked on things, which was reflected in our grocery order. I love the feeling of security it gives me.

Therapy is very important, but I absolutely hate the process of finding mental health care, for myself or my kids. I feel like I'm navigating the whole thing on my own.

Pro tip: if your AC is on life support, making jambalaya over the stove is not a great idea. Also, eating hot, spicy jambalaya when your AC is on life support is also freaking dumb. 🥵

I agree with all of the comments under this post, but I will also say to Gen Z that wants to go back to sometime less than 50 years in the past, you actually want to live in the past, but with modern sensibilities. Cause baby, shit has changed and you may not like what you experience back then.

🌱 my spring garden hasn't really even done anything yet and I'm already thinking about my summer planting. Have to pick stuff that will thrive in the Texas summer heat. Second round of tomatoes/peppers, for sure, but okra (def), maybe black eyed peas? Winter squash also... 🤔 #gardening #NTexas

Busy weekend in the garden 🌱! After 2 truckloads of dirt that I had to move, the new beds are filled. Then I did ALL THE PLANTING/SOWING! 😁 Last thing is to finish barricading the sides of the beds until I can get more chicken wire, to keep all the 2 and 4 legged creatures out. #gardening #NTexas

A friend talked me into becoming an poll worker in 2016, starting w the Dem primary that year. Since then, I've worked more elections than I haven't. I'm proud of it, but I'm even more proud that my oldest (now 21) volunteered as a student, and now my second kid (16) is volunteering with me. 🥰

We are set for supplies for the ice storm in #NTexas, but I underestimated my liquor supply. I think I'll have my last martini tonight, there's no wine or beer, and probably won't be able to go anywhere until Tuesday at the earliest. Whatever shall I do? At least there's plenty of coffee and tea.

It's a terrible collage, but my all-time favorite picture from the cobblestone ice event in #NTexas in 2013. The Minion's expression just captures our feeling about ice/snow in the South US perfectly. 🤣
3 stacked pictures: the bottom one is an outdoor table covered in ice and snow with a citronella candle and small toy; the middle picture is a video of the toy, which is a yellow Minion laying in the ice; top picture is an extreme close-up of the Minion toy, looking scared.

🌱 Winter has decided to briefly stop by #NTexas, but in the next couple of weeks, I think it's fruit tree pruning time. I've never done it, so I'm very intimidated. Watching lots of videos, but any recs showing pruning on young trees, I'd appreciate it! Peach and apple, 1 & 2 y.o. trees. #gardening

13 y.o. is helping with Xmas baking. She was all excited, made chocolate chip cookies, then wandered away. I was like, hey kid, not done, and the look she gave me... 🤣 After an hour break, when she was mustering up the strength to mix the next set, she said "I don't know how you do this all time".
