I work in an ER. Met a couple last night where the husband is the only wage earner for now. He has to work 80 hours per week to make ends meet and says it is really a struggle because of the high cost of everything.

Yes, I’ve noticed that the majority of sex scandals (including pedophilia) in the news involving politicians seem to come from Republicans. I haven’t seen statistics but that’s my perception. Predatory behavior can come from anywhere, but it feels on-brand for the GOP.

Our spending on jails and prisons reached $87 billion in 2015, an increase of 1000% from the $7.4 billion spent in 1975.

In 1972, there were only 200,000 people incarcerated in the United States. Today that number has grown to 2.2 million.

I don’t watch a lot of late night comedy, but I watched tonight. Jimmy Kimmel had intense pressure on his shoulders to make the most of his high-profile return. He rose to the occasion with courage, grace and, of course, humor. He made me feel a glimmer of hope for the future of this country.
